Book Description

An indispensable companion in the MR suite!

Magnetic resonance imaging is a modality that is carried out under highly standardized conditions. Without knowledge of proper patient positioning and setting of parameters on the MR scanner, the quality of resultant images cannot be optimized.

This book provides in easy-to-use form the general principles of patient positing in MR imaging, and the appropriate scanning parameters, as used most commonly in hospital departments and practice.

The text is organized in a manner that follows the chronological order of examination steps:

- preparation for the examination and materials needed;

- specifics as to patient positioning and choice of coils;

- protocols for carrying out the examination;

- examples of recommended MR imaging sequence parameters;

- tips and tricks

Besides the classic indications arising from neurological and orthopedic disorders, this book includes positioning information for the entire body and adjunct examinations, including MR angiography and MR cholangiography examinations.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book accomplished its goal, to provide a very detailed yet compact protocol book that includes patient preparation, positioning lines, protocols, sequences, parameters... It would be an important addition for those who are looking to build protocols, improve existing protocols, or simply become more familiarized with sequences and parameters needed for MRI."-- American Journal of Neuroradiology

From the Author

Although magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, has been with us for quite some time and is in widespread and routine use, good "recipe books" on the perfomrance of specific actual studies are hard to find. Since all imaging modalities, and particularly MRI, are carried out by a range of operators under varying clinical circumstances, standardizing the work flow becomes ever more important, because it is only through standardization that the quality of diagnostic imaging will improve. This pared-down book attempts to close the gaps in MRI protocols for routine applications. By leaving out all extraneous information, we have put together a power-packed "how-to-do-it" book. We have compiled protocals for most major studies, not only paying particular attention to the "classic" indications in neurology and orthopedics but also including the more recent developments such as MR angiography and MR cholangiography.

3.0 out of 5 stars good baseline, January 11, 2007
By
This review is from: MRI Parameters and Positioning (Paperback)
This book is a good baseline for most sequences. It covers most exams but does not go into much detail about them. (Like which slice is ideal for setting up the next sequences.) The drawings are also vague. Actual images would have been more helpful.
For the seasoned MR tech this book will probably not be very helpful. For new MR techs this book will be good to have as a baseline.
