My grandson order this in order to build me a new computer. It is wonderful and I am very happy with all the components he ordered through Amazon. My new computer looks great, runs great & and very quietly. I am now able to chat with friends again and check my email without any problems. Thanks Amazon for choosing the right folks and for providing such great service.

This motherboard had me nervous because I have always built gaming PCs with $200 - $400 motherboards. I received this unit and was pleased to find it was super compact yet had nice quality dimm slots, PCIe slots, etc. I was surprised to find that it had a parallel port which is kind of cool and might become useful for what I do. For the money it's a good buy - wouldn't put it in my gaming PC and I am not sure I can overclock with it, but again for what I need that's fine. Another cool thing is the BIOS supports mouse input, so that makes navigating a little easier.

For the price, this motherboard has been a Rock Star! I currently have 8GB of memory and a low priced Intel Pentium G3240 in it.

At first I was going uber budget on this PC and I was very impressed with the performance per dollar. Most of that credit I give MSI. Also the PCI x16 2.0 is great. I have tested it with a range of video cards from a GTX 460, to the brand new (as of writing this) GTX 970. It has worked great with everything so far.

MSI Live Update 6 is also great for keeping drivers up to date. I ran this to get the latest of every driver, and it works like a champ.

I wanted to convert an unused WinXP system into a Linux box, but my old motherboard would have none of that (I was encountering recoverable faults when XP booted, and it would lock up when installing Linux Mint). So on a Fry’s special I picked up this motherboard along with an i5-4440 (3.1 GHz) and pair it up with 2 DDR3 1600MHz Corsair 4gig sticks.

My intention was to salvage my existing case, PS, HD and DVD. The board was easy to install. The USB and panel headers were in convenient, easy to reach locations. Linux Mint installed quickly and my system is running like a champ.

So why not give it 5 stars? Mostly because of expandability – this board has several shortcomings, most of which I knew going in, and one slight surprise that I didn’t catch while reading the specs.

1 – This board has only 2 memory slots. Not a huge deal – it just means you buy might want to buy all the RAM you need up front, or start with a one stick solution and add a second module later.

2 – 2400MHz RAM is not supported. Unless you’re a power user, this probably won’t matter much to you. FWIW 1600MHZ Ram is a bit cheaper.

3 – Expansion slots – Just one PCI-E spot and 2 PCI Express slots. Not a lot, but enough for most people I presume.

4 – This Mobo is all SATA – There are no PATA headers available. This meant I had to stop in the middle of my install and take a drive to Best Buy to pick up a SATA DVD drive.

5 – No rear SATA port. Yeah, it does have USB 3.0, but there’s no way to hook up my external drive without buying more parts.

Other thoughts
Mil Spec components – Meh. On one hand if my old ABit AB9 Pro had better components I might not have had to buy new hardware for my Linux box.
