This is an extremely powerful laptop in a very compact design for a reasonable price. The keyboard is probably one of the best I've ever used on a laptop and the display (once exchanged) is top notch viewing from all angles. There is a 3k option for the display as well but I decided to stick with the 1080p one seeing as it's much more efficient to run within native resolution and max out graphic settings in pretty much all games. Monitors prefer to be run in their native resolution so scaling down to 1080p probably wouldn't look as good on a 3K display so I didn't see much of a point in getting it. The 1080p display is beautiful.
MSI has some great tools they include with windows and the only "bloat" installed on the laptop was some Norton Security utilities which were easily uninstalled. There is a very nice control panel for setting 3 different performance modes (a.k.a. Shift Mode) and I found the lowest setting "Green" to be more than sufficient to run my gaming. The higher settings definitely give more power but you basically sacrifice quiet and comfortable "lap" gaming because the fans are running at full speed and it pushes out some extremely hot heat from the vents. I'm surprised the lowest setting runs game just as well so I have been more than happy with the noise level and heat generated for the performance within that level.
Keyboard is TOP NOTCH. AMAZING touch and feel. The LEDs are a bit gimicky but it's nice to have various different settings to highlight different sections of the keyboard based on your needs. i.e. there is a preset "Gaming" mode which only lights up the left side of the keyboard so you can see your common A,S,D,E,F keys.Read more ›

I didn't purchase this on Amazon, but felt the need to post a review. This laptop has been out for a few months and it is still the very best ultrabook you can buy. Recently, the Razer Blade, with a 3K resolution on a 14" screen, was released as the main contender to this... first and foremost, do not buy anything greater than 1920x1080 resolution for a laptop. You won't notice the difference and it's going to decrease your framerate by making your dedicated GPU work harder. Really, you wouldn't notice the difference 4K would make on anything smaller than a 50" TV, so why would you insist on anything greater than 1080 on a 15.6" laptop screen, let alone anything smaller? In any case, with this laptop you can always plug it up to something with a larger screen and display at a higher resolution and make that GPU work harder. There are GS60 models that come in 3K and 4K, the 4K in a cool champagne color, but... don't do it, it's to your detriment! Also with regard to the screen, this is PLS, which, specwise, beats IPS, the industry standard.
Additionally, this is a 6GB VRAM GPU, still the absolute most VRAM for an ultrabook! Why get this much? Sure, you will notice a slight improvement (over 3GB VRAM, such as found on the latest Razer Blade 970m) when running demanding games on the highest texture settings, but, more importantly, the problem with laptops is that they can become outdated quickly.. one area this can be most noticeable is the VRAM, so consider 6GB a significant investment. On that note, one final and very important comment on the GPU: this is next gen and will be fully compatible with DirectX 12, which will be released later this year.Read more ›

First, I bought this laptop for use at work (IT System Administrator) and for gaming when I am not at home. Most reviews point out that the trackpad isn't great but I find it gets the job done but I also didn't buy a $1900 gaming laptop for a trackpad. I bought an $80 logitech g700s wireless gaming mouse to go with my laptop and it's great. The Display on this laptop is the best I have ever seen on a laptop and looks as good as my Dell UltraSharp 2312HM I use on my desktop at home. The sound is great for a laptop. Battery life is ok for a light weight gaming laptop. Windows 8.1 runs well on this machine and the included MSI apps are nice the only things I removed were the included Norton bloatware. In order to do all the right tuning and driver updating I downloaded IOBits Advanced System Care Free and IOBits Driver Booster 2 Free which optimized my laptop and made it run even faster. So far I have played BF4 on ultra with over 70 FPS on average and I have played Arma 3 with over 4000 view distance enabled with everything on low except textures. The laptop can run at higher settings I just prefer most of the things on low. I have not encountered any lag either wireless or wired. The only issue I have noticed is the touchpad doesn't disable when I plug my mouse in and when I enabled the setting for it to do that it would disable but wouldn't enable after I took the mouse out I had to plug the mouse in and enable it manually so for not I just use the fn+f3 combo to enable and disable the trackpad. The real downside to this laptop is it is extremely difficult to upgrade the m.2 sata drive that comes with it or add a second one as it requires taking off the bottom and then taking out the motherboard so non technical or lazy people should keep that in mind.Read more ›
