4.0 out of 5 stars Great Price Good Performance, April 18, 2009
After my Toshiba became outdated trying play more modern games I started my search. I then found this nice little jewel. Let me give you a couple of my opinions of this system. First the bad..The heat exhaust is on the right side of the system and blows warm air on yours hands if your right handed and using a mouse, The partition of the drive, and Windows Vista which I have totally dumbed down to get it more like XP. Now the good...

Windows Vista I am finally getting used to it, The performance vs price is great, The battery life I am impressed with my old unit would only run maybe 30 min. this one about 2 hrs. I am still finding more things positive about this system than negative as I keep using it. I would highly recommend this system.

5.0 out of 5 stars MSI GX620-001US-Great Laptop., March 8, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have had this laptop for about a week now and I have to say that it is an excellent laptop for the price. There are some quirks about it that took some getting use too. Like, the keyboard layout is a little cramped to get the number pad and the Ctrl and Fn keys are reversed. The hard drive partition is horrid, but with a free program I repartitioned it to my liking.

I have played many games on here, mostly CoD and this thing handles them with ease. Not even a hiccup. The turbo button, in the BIOS, is preset to 15% over clock but can be changed to 20%. I really don't use it too much as all the things I want to do is handled well at stock. My friend has the same model and plays Diablo and Spore with no problems.

Another plus is that it did not come with a lot of blot/crap ware on it. I think there was 2-3 optional programs. I quickly uninstalled all the unwanted software and loaded up everything that I wanted.

Downside is that it has Vista 32 Bit, not 64, and does not use all 4Gb of ram. I am not thrilled with Vista, but with a few tweaks I found online, it is moving along nicely and faster at that.

There are only 2 USB 2.0 ports and 1 eSATA/USB 2.0 port, would like 4, but I can't have everything. It does have 7.1 sound, headphones and mic in. The sound from the speakers are pretty good considering the size, better than my last laptop.

When in heavy use, this can spit some heat out (vent is on right side where I have my mouse). It keeps me nice and warm on those long gaming sessions, too warm sometimes. Despite the heat, it handles everything I do well; watching dvds, music, HD video, gaming without even a hiccup.

Bottom Line, if you want a great laptop at a great price that can be gamed on,then try this one. I have not regretted it and I don't think you will either.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad at all., July 14, 2009
This review is from: MSI GX620-098US 15.4-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
i was looking for a light weight laptop , that could also handle some games on the road. this one looked to match my needs.

the first thought , it looks good out of the box. set up and updating the software went good. The buttons for bluetooth, webcam, wifi are easy to find, and a nice touch i think.

the screen is good, dvd movies look good enough.

the web cam worked fine with yahoo, msn. did not like the bulit in mic, so back to the headset for that.

The sound is good enough for a laptop, however when i plug into my sound system at home it is really good.

games i have installed and played so far,

world of warcraft, soul storm, left 4 dead, call of duty 4.

all seem to play fine. how the laptop seemed to have issues with cod4 at max setting, i did not try over clocking it yet.

the only thing i dont like

1) i really dont like the keyboard, it takes some getting used to, but i think they could have left out the right hand arrow keys.and made more room for the normal keys.

over all, i am liking this laptop, it was nice being out of town, and able to play wow , and left 4 dead with my friends.

only reson it gets a 4 is the keyoard.

it's been money well spent i think.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 years with a GX633, March 7, 2011

(REAL NAME)
I have been using an MSI GX330 for 2.5 years and I love it. The GX633 is about identical to the GX620 except for the CPU. I run a lot of the latest Steam games. Granted, with a 2-core AMD and "only" a Nvidia 9600M GT I sometimes need to back off a few settings. My only real gripe is the red legends on the Function keys. The color is very difficult to see under low light conditions. A smaller gripe is the wireless adapter can sometimes be a little cranky. Sometimes the wireless radio won't turn on and you have to drill down into the settings and force it on manually.

For $999 it is by far the best computer deal I ever got into. I am using the Bluetooth for the mouse. I upgraded to Windows 7, no problem. I have upgraded the hard drive twice. I found out that MSI uses Western Digital "Blue" hard drives which are the most reliable and coolest on the market. I use a small auxiliary notebook cooler with 3 fans when gaming. BIG TIP: Please blow the dust out of the cooling vents every few months. I installed a mini-pcie TV card inside. It was very simple. If you want one go to eBay and look for an AVERMEDIA. Here is the one I bought for $20: AVerMedia A317 Anlog ATSC TV Turner Card 482467-001. It works nicely with Windows Media Center. My GX633 came with a built-in antenna connector. The biggest problem was locating an adapter to connect to a standard TV antenna RF connector. Also available on eBay for a buck. (RF Coaxial to MCX TV Antenna Cable Adaptor DVB-T DVBT)

[...]

I plan to buy a GX640 or the like and replace my big old self-built desktop gamer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of computer for price., April 15, 2009

I have no complaints with this computer other than the horrible partitioning of the drives. I just download everything into the D: instead of C:. Other than that I have no grips. I have played The Witcher, Total War, and will be playing Rome soon.

The built in webcam and turbo are also very nice features.

Happy hunting.

5.0 out of 5 stars my MSI GX620-001US, February 21, 2009
My notebook has the;

Model: WD3200BEKT

WD Scorpio® Black(tm)

Mobile Hard Drives

320 GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM

So far no weak or dead pixels

First impressions;

1. Build quality is very good, fit and finish.

2. Will need pratice getting use to typing on the keyboard, need the numbers pad, so I'll have to deal with it...haha...better then lugging 16" or 17" screen notebook to get the numbers pad. Feels great to rest palms on metal then plastic.

3. Pretty quiet fan and HD noise so far...only net surfing right now.

4. I'll let it burn in for a few days before installing to many programs on it, learned from experience most new computer components will either break in a few days or last for years. Lazy me, not wasting my time if it breaks. ;P

5. Not to much spamware installed on this notebook. NIS 2008 & MS Office trial versions.

6. Screen picture quality after Nvidia adjustments is good, not the best or worst, average from my experience.

7. Hard Disk Partition is horrid...C: 50 GB D: 250 GB...Some programs dont allow the option to install on D drive, oh well, guess I can move them later over to D:

8. Overall right NOW the GX620-001US has meet my expectation for Initial Quality & Excellent SPEC value lappy.
