CPU Socket Type
The socket type is the kind of connection used to mount the CPU to the motherboard. Intel and AMD each make their own types of sockets. You will want to make sure your new motherboard socket type matches that of your chosen CPU.

Motherboard Size
Motherboards come in a variety of sizes for different applications. You will want to make sure your computer case is designed to hold the size of motherboard you buy. Smaller motherboards have less connections for components, but are useful when you need a PC that won't take up a lot of space.

Number of SATA Connections
The number of SATA connections on your motherboard will determine how many mass storage devices and optical drives you can install in your computer. You will want one connection for each hard drive, solid state drive, and CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive you plan to use.
I bought this board for a brand new budget gaming rig. Having 4 RAM slots, a Sata 6Gb/s port and USB 3.0 were key in my decision to buy this. Having the Sata 6GB/s port will be great for an SSD upgrade in the future. The board itself is great and it makes cable management easy with the layout of the connectors on it.
However, I have ran into one minor/major complaint.
There are 6 mounting holes on the board to attach it to your case. These 6 holes are all located middle to left side of the board. Meaning there are absolutely ZERO mounting holes on the right side of the board. I checked the manual that came with the board, and this is in fact true. I'm not missing anything, I double and triple checked. Here's why it is a problem. You need to insert the RAM into the mobo before putting it into the case. If you try and do this after the fact, the force from inserting the RAM will bend the board on the far right RAM slot. It doesn't bend much, but it still causes the board to bend.
The bigger problem, is trying to hook up the 24 pin ATX power supply plug. Like a previous reviewer, I could not get mine to 'click' into place and had to push quite hard on the board to get it to go fully into the slot. This caused a great bend in the board, and put a ton of stress on the board as a whole. Eventually I used the paper manual that came with the board, and folded it up to place under the board to provide some stability while I inserted the plug. This allowed me to actually get the plug to go into the connector fully. It still didn't snap into place, but it did get a secure connection and was not able to be removed without releasing the clip.Read more ›

This board is the best for price, it is very stable, and has an excellent bios.. "But" There is only one PCI-E port, that means you can only have one GPU, so there will be no SLI or Crossfire.
Pros: Super fast board In depth instructions EXTREMELY helpful BIOS
Cons: Garbage antivirus that comes with software Single PCI-E Limited upgrade ability

This motherboard has everything I needed for my first build. the UEFI BIOS was very easy to use and setup. The only problem I had was connecting the 24 Pin power connector. I had to apply a lot of pressure to make sure it was on right. It never clicked either. The pressure I used caused the board to bend quite a bit. since it was my first build I was pretty paranoid that I might have messed it up. Another purchaser suggested connecting the 24pin before mounting the board to the case. Other than that this board does everything I need it to do. Great for 1st timers.

Great motherboard but mine the pins on the 24 pin atx connector i think are bent. The cable won't click but it still works for everything fine. I really don't want to return it though.

This board will get you up and running with no frills, for the best price out there, and with 4 DRAM slots. This board is what you want if you are on a budget with any case.

I purchased this board as a backup for my MSI Z77MA-G45 that I had to RMA, but also to serve as the motherboard in my test rig. This board has many things going for it, several of which I will list:
1) It is well made, and despite being MSI's budget motherboard, it compares nicely to boards in the $100+ category. 2) It has four memory slots for a maximum of 32GB of RAM, not bad for a low-end board at all! 3) It has USB 3.0 ports, something missing from many of its competitors, and even has headers for two more! 4) It has a SATA3 port for getting the most of an OS SSD. 5) It has one each of PCIEx16, PCIEx1 and PCI, meaning you won't have to upgrade an old PCI card if you don't want to. 6) It is compatible with OSX with little to no modification.
I was first drawn to MSI's motherboards after reading an article about hackintosh-compatible mATX motherboards. MSI boards, it seems, are just as easy to use as Gigabyte, and in my opinion are MUCH better looking. MSI has done a great job with the color scheme, which is understated without being too muted. With several power saving options, this is a great HTPC/general home use motherboard but don't let that put you off! It supports RAM up to 2400mhz and will play nicely with even the Core i7 processors!
Now, I really want to take a second and mention MSI's UEFI BIOS. This thing is amazing, and if you haven'te experienced UEFI BIOS's yet, you're in for a treat. The thing looks great, has intuitive controls, and heck, you can even use your mouse! The BIOS has three settings: power saving, normal and overclocked. It has automatic overclocking (apparently going off of your components automagically) or you can overclock manually.Read more ›

I ordered this part for my new personal computer build. I liked its looks and everything in overall. The instruction manual helps really alot and understand what it tells you to do to put all parts together in mobo. MSI does really good job on this. I would definitely forward to buy more MSI mobo in future new computer build.
