Great Card, Good Quality March 31, 2008
By Danny
This is a good card. Has outstanding picture quality and the program that come with is pretty good. But I think windows Media Center is better. The application that Power Cinema uses to encode a recording to put it on a DVD is poor. the quality of it was very bad compared to WMC. But if you have an application for it, this is a terrific card. Everything works great with Vista and XP. Overall, the ATi drivers and such are outstanding.

I bought the ATI 650 tv tuner card because ATI was a well known name with a history of regular firmware updates. Despite upgrading to all the latest firmware after about 20-30 minutes the card simply "freezes" with no warning or error message. I am running Windows Ultimate Vista SP1 with no restrictions on CPU or hard-drive space and tons of extra computing capacity. I repeatedly sent emails to ATI technical support . Only guidance was to reinstall the drivers and it must be Microsoft Windows fault. lame . I would not recommend this card due to my experience and unhelpful technical support.

I have owned this since it came out over a year ago and have enjoyed the exquite picture detail and vibrant colors it produces. In HDTV channels - WOW! and the analog pictures are great as well - the best analog of any of the 8 TV cards I have owned over the years. However, the PowerCinema accompanying software is very buggy and not user friendly. It loses programmed show times occasionally and it is hard to set up for channel scans. For some reason you have to re-scan for channels periodically. My Hauppage cards, though somewhat lesser picture quality (exception: HDTV in HVR-1600 is comparable), have more stable software. Many complain about the quality of Hauppage TV software, so what does that say about PowerCinema software? If you use other 3rd Party TV Tuner software available, your success story will be better. I really do like the tuner card itself and the quality of contruction and video quality, so I still give the ATI 650 high praise. Buy it for the card, but do not expect the software to impress.
