Great Tent!, March 13, 2010
This review is from: MSR Hubba Tent (Sports)
I bought this tent slightly used in January before the local Sierra Club Wilderness Basics course started. You know it never rains in Southern California? Well, guess what? It rained. All three weekends I have used it so far. I have done enough camping in cheap tents to say that I expected to be drenched in this tent after these extended rains. Instead, not a drop on me.
I will say that I did not comfortably squeeze my pack inside the tent with me (and I am only 5'6" tall). Instead, it was under the small vestibule in a trash bag. In hindsight, I thought it would not fit because my head was a foot from the end of the tent. I was worried about getting wet in the tent. I can't wait to try it again to see if I can get the pack inside.
It has seen 60 mph wind gusts, and 30 mph steady wind (estimated). While the stakes were also "rocked" it held up great. The fly was pulled so tight it did not even flap excessively though it was still very windy. And with so much mesh to the tent, while in the wind and desert, I did end up with quite a bit of fine, silty dust on the dry, windy night.
The tent seemed pretty cozy at first. Especially when others I was with had 1+ or 2 person tents. But the more I used it the more I liked it. I don't think there is much that this tent would not handle.
I do still think it is a bit cozy. One of these days I will probably upgrade to a two person UL tent for about the same weight (just to have the extra room). I will never sell it though. It is too good of a tent.
