Amazon.com Product Description

MSR's Fast & Light tent series continues to redefine the livability and quality you can expect when it comes to ultralight shelters, and the Mutha Hubba tent is no exception. The company's best-selling freestanding three-person tent, the Mutha Hubba offers all the same features as the popular Hubba Hubba tent, but with maximum livability for a trio of campers. The tent employs the latest technologies and materials in its design, including 40D x 238T ripstop nylon 6 fabric in the fly and canopy, along with a 1,500mm polyurethane and silicone coating on the fly's exterior to help keep cold and wet weather at bay. In addition, the pole's unique pole configuration provides maximum interior space, so campers don't need to feel overly confined while sleeping or reading books by lantern lights. And to make the tent feel even more inviting, MSR included two doors and two large vestibules for storing gear or simply enjoying the view--even in nasty weather. As a result, the Mutha Hubba is an tent for a minimalist trio who are backpacking deep into the Sierra's in the heat of summer or tackling the Appalachian Trail for an extended trip in the spring.

The Mutha Hubba--which includes a hub system for quick and easy setup--can be used as a double-wall tent for full protection or in a freestanding tarp-shelter mode with the optional footprint (sold separately).

The Mutha Hubba's compact floor plan maximizes interior space for a trio of campers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I <3 this tent!, March 7, 2010
By
This review is from: MSR Mutha Hubba Tent (Sports)
I bought this tent a few years ago and have nothing but kind things to say about it.

1.) It's sorta light. Considering its size, it's sorta light, probably around 7 pounds when you include the footprint (not included.) Considering how voluminous this thing is, I really don't mind the extra ounces.

2.) It's freakin' huge. Seriously, this thing is the airplane hanger of small tents. The way the poles pull this thing apart, there is just tons of headroom in this then. Maybe it's a character defect of mine, but I get a little uneasy being in confined areas, like when you're trying to get a pair of pants on in a tent and you're banging your head against a wall/ceiling. I've never had a problem like that in this tent. Seriously, it's gigantic. I'll bet if you took a ratio of square footage to cubic footage, this one would win by a mile.

3.) It's mostly screen. No more riding out humid, still nights. With all-around screen, whatever little wind is around -will- pass through your tent. My last tent had a clever wind-flow system so that you had to position the tent just right with respect to the wind to catch any breeze. Never again!

4.) It's easy to use. It's a snap to put up and the rain fly is very easy to deal with. The doors are very intuitive and easy to get in and out of. It's really a no brainer. The only challenge is reading the directions the first few times to figure out when, where and how the poles go in. After that, it's smooth sailing.

5.) It's lasting quite well. I've had this for three years now and we camp regularly in it, even in the snow. So far, no stitches have popped, all the zippers are cherry and as far as I can tell, there isn't even any abrasion on it. My guess is that the rain fly has faded a bit, but I would have to compare it to a fresh one. Other than that, I'm quite surprised at how well this is holding up.

This is a really great tent. My -only- complaint is that the vestibules really cannot hold that much stuff. When this is billed as a "three person tent" I'd say there is no theoretical way to fit three campers and all of their stuff into this tent. For the two of us, however, this tent is just perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hate the new green fly, January 18, 2012
This review is from: MSR Mutha Hubba Tent (Sports)
My original Mutha Hubba rain fly turned to goo while in its storage container so I returned it to MSR at their direction to be replaced. (They knew the original rain fly had a defective coating.) The replacement fly arrived and I tossed it in a new storage container where it lived for several months before it was packed for a two week trip to southern Arizona. The first time I pitched the fly I started cussing a blue streak. The new fly did not have vents like the original. After I returned from the trip I contacted MSR, being somewhat cranky about the missing vents. They told me they did not include the vents in the new fly because they wanted to save weight and they didn't think the vents did much to help keep condensation down. Obviously, they had not spent much time in either iteration of the tent. I can assure them that the vents make a world of difference. If you want to look at the additional weight of the vents as a percent of the total weight of the tent, I don't think anybody would notice. I assume the real reason for not including vents in the new fly was to cut cost while charging the same for the tent. I spent months in the tent with vents and two weeks in the tent without vents and I can state with certitude that MSR turned a great tent into just another good tent. The woods are full of "good" tents. If I were in the market for another three man tent, I would buy a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3. Lighter and still has one of those incredibly heavy vents. I do own a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 and love the fact that it also has one of those heavy vents. Very disappointed in MSR.
