I love this freaking skillet. It is light compared to other skillets/fry pans in its price range. It is hard to believe this 9" skillet weighs 7 oz. The non-stick feature has held up real well. Just make sure to use plastic utensils to prevent scratching while cooking. As soon as you are done cooking with it use a paper towel to clean it and wipe off the skillet. That way when it comes down to washing the skillet you won't be using the abrasive side of the sponge. I really like the way the cooking surface of this skillet is shaped compared to the heavier REI or GSI brand pans. The REI and GSI pans are more concave while the MSR skillet is more of a deep dish. This increases the ability to nest with other items. I usually place anywhere from 2 to 4 plates and place a pack of 8 flour tortillas. I squeeze in a sponge, spatula, bottle of liquid soap, msr packtowl and some frozen Mexican sausage. I had a mesh stuff sack from an old footprint laying around that fit perfectly with the MSR skillet. Overall I really love this skillet.

We needed a skillet to take with us on a backpacking trip. Since most of our cooking stuff is titanium, I checked those styles out first. What I found out from the reviews is that Ti has horrible heat dispersion. Great for boiling water, or any food that has a lot of liquid, but bad for things like eggs, fish, steak, etc. The MSR Flex Skillet was a perfect balance between weight and functionality. The heat dispersion was fairly even and it is just a little bit heavier than the Ti models. A good purchase.

I'm a bit of a design geek, and the handle on this thing is amazing. I'm used to using pot grabbers when backpacking, so a handle that folds over, latches in its extended position, and comes off easily if desired is SO nice to have! My compliments to whoever created it.

I bought this a couple weeks ago, and it served me and my friends very well on our recent backpacking trip. It has good heat distribution and the non-stick coating works great - perfect for pancakes! The coating already has a couple scratches thanks to people piling other dishes in it without thinking (and probably some beach sand as well), but it should do fine if we're a little more careful next time. I wish it didn't scratch quite that easily, though.

I bought the msr flex skillet in aug. of 2013 and have not had a chance to use it as of yet.
It is as pictured and appears to be of high quality.
My only beef is the pan itself is actually only 8 inches in dia. and 2 inches deep.
Just wanted to make sure people know what the cooking space is.
Even with the handle you get no where near the 9 in. dia. x 2.5 in. depth as advertised.
I feel this is a misrepresentation of the product so I gave it 3 stars.

I would not DREAM of going backpacking without this pan. We love making pancakes on camping/packing trips (Kodiak Cakes Butter Milk and Honey Flapjack and Waffle Mix, 24-Ounce (Pack of 3) - Just add water and YUM!) while the sides rise high enough for soup duty, too.

When I ordered it, I did not know if it would nest with my MSR Quick 2 System Cook Set since it does not explicitly exclude that set but explicitly mentions that it does nest with the 3 and 4 system. It does NOT nest, but it a big deal since I usually can pack things into the space between the pots and the pan (if I take the pots at all.)

In short, I would value this over the cook sets in most applications (the pots win out if you plan on making lots of soup or boiling lots of water/melting snow.)

KOO KOO KA CHU!

Although I know MSR for very good quality products, this was not the case with this frying pan. The metal gets easily out of shape and worst of all the (toxic) non-stick layer was already heavily damaged after using it a few times! I always took good care for it (using no metal on it etc.), but it still got easily damaged. Not worth the money.

Lightweight, durable. Bought this for an 8 day trip on the John Muir Trail. Cooked eggs, pancakes, bacon to perfection over a portable Isopro stove. The nonstick surface is easy to clean. The folding handle makes it easy to stow and after several uses it has held up well with no flaking. Highly recommended
