Fantastic Fry Pan!!!,

This is by far the best fry pan I have seen available for outdoor cooking. I love going to outdoor stores and especially checking out their selection of cookware for hiking, backpacking, and camping.
Along with my wife, kids, and several of my brother-in-laws, we have accumulated a pretty good variety of mess kit-type cooking supplies, and MSR, in my opinion, has the best all-around selection. I have found success in purchasing individual components and compiling my own "mess kit", instead of purchasing a pre-assembled kit. Along with MSR's Stowaway pots, their Alpine series stainless steel cookware is great. I have had my pan for a couple of years now and have just purchased two more for my family. Along with cooking eggs and meat, I have used this pan several times to make bannock, a camp bread, over a fire, and it turns out great. The pan is about 8" in diameter and will make enough bread for 4-5 people to have with a meal. 2 cups of flour and other ingredients bake into a loaf that fits very nicely into the pan. The handle is detachable, and fits nicely into my other mess kit pots. When locked in place, it would be hard to tell the handle isn't part of the pan itself - it's very solid. One distinct advantage this pan has over others it the aluminum base that disperses heat over an even area instead of the flame being exposed to just one area of the steel. There is spout for draining oil, also. I value the durability of stainless steel over the lighter weight, smaller pans. I wouldn't consider using a different pan - even if it saved space and weight. The pan cleans up nicely by using an SOS pad. If it's real grimy from the fire, it takes some elbow grease, but can be cleaned up to be shiny again. I'd snap one of these up in a heartbeat if your serious about cooking over a fire.

Backwoods Bistro in a Box,

I'm in love with this inanimate object of a frying pan. The bottom really does disperse the heat amazingly. Over a center fire I could boil water on the outer edges in a minute or so. Easily fits a 6 pack of big hot dogs and is deep enough to boil water. While I am a fan of the compact nature of backpack gear, this pan is big enough to actually feed a person or two unlike some gear which uses a shot glass for a salad bowl.
The only con I do have for this is the lack of a lid. While I wont lower the rating since the pan itself is easy to clean, compact, light, and durable, I will be searching for a lid to go with this. One more thing to note is that the handle is very sturdy when attached.

Gourmet Quality Cookware For The Trail!,

I have used other backpacking pans in the past and they were always made of thin Stainless Steel or such and they had hot spots. They worked okay but I always thought this was just something you had to put up with when heading outdoors. Well this frying pan proved that concept WRONG!
The construction is similar to my gourmet pot & pan set that has a 1/4" copper plate on the bottom to spread the heat evenly. This pan has a plate of aluminum on the bottom and it works just like my professional set! No hot spots. Fries up a couple of eggs perfectly, just wipe with a bit of canola oil and you get no sticking. I am extremely pleased with this item!

Best sainless pan for the price.,

Well made and perfect size for frying. Only two draw backs are the weight and the handle detaches instead of folding away. Very sturdy and well made. The MSR Stowaway Pot 1.6 L fits in the pan with only a little gap, so together they make a nice family set.

One of the reasons I bought this was it said it had a 'folding handle'. Well, IT DOESN"T. The handle comes off, but does not fold up. It even says on the back of the box "compact handle folds up" but on the side panel it says "removable handle". I was very disappointed in this misleading claim.
As for the fry pan itself, it appears to be sturdy, though I am unsure how long that handle is going to hold up over time. I am not going to like feeling like I have to baby it to make sure it doesn't loosen up or break. It'll get a workout this summer--hope it is up to the challenge.

It looks like a nice strong frying pan, although i have not actually used it yet. The only down side seems to be that it was described as having a fold away handle, which made me think that it would just fold into the pan. That is not the case. You have to remove the handle and store it in the pan. For that reason i am giving it a 4 star and not a 5.

Sturdy Frying pan Built to Last,

MSR frying pan fits nicely underneath the Alpine Classic's 2 Liter pot, which takes up very little space for what it's worth. MSR Alpine Classic Cookset I often use it as a 2nd lid....when I need to cook & steam rice, and make hot tea, etc.The best thing is it's durable made of stainless steel with laminated aluminum bottom for better heat dispersion. Basically indestructible, good for forgetful people that burns the pan... like myself.

This is the perfect pan for camping. It is big enough and deep enough to fry and even boil water or potatoes if you have a top to keep the steam in. But it is not too big and bulky. The handle comes off making it easy to pack and the stainless steel ensures no rust or leaching like aluminum products. A perfect camping/packing pan!

This fry pan is great. It stays in place on my stove. Heats quickly and evenly with no hot spots. Sturdy strong pan that cleans up nicely even the burned on stuff cleans off easily. Well worth the money.
