5.0 out of 5 stars The best
Simply the best tent stake on the market today. I've been a Scoutmaster for 23 years and have gone through dozens of different designs of tent stakes looking for the most perfect one out there: this is it. They can be bought for about $2 ea. If you look around you can find cheaper copies sold in different colors but unless you're buying them by the hundred as I am,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but...
Lightweight and strong as advertised. But...have now managed to break two of them in three outings. One of the top ears snapped off of one, and another busted right in half. Looks like they're brittle when whacked just right (or wrong). So the quest for the perfect stake continues.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, April 7, 2007

Simply the best tent stake on the market today. I've been a Scoutmaster for 23 years and have gone through dozens of different designs of tent stakes looking for the most perfect one out there: this is it. They can be bought for about $2 ea. If you look around you can find cheaper copies sold in different colors but unless you're buying them by the hundred as I am, it's not worth the search. The three sided design grabs the soil, placed sideways it hold in sand and snow. The anodized aluminum is very lightweight but drives into the hardest ground. ...and the lifetime warranty means you'll never have to pay for a tent stake ever again!

5.0 out of 5 stars best alum stake around, December 24, 2007

by far, the best alum tent stakes I've ever owned. The tri-leg design is the extra reinforcement it needs (which many don't have) to drive into just about any type soil. The only upgrade I can think of would be to go with the same design in titanium... which I have, but now that I've got these, I don't think the strength improvement and minor weight savings justifies the excessive cost of the titanium variety. Definitely a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars a less expensive alternative, May 22, 2009
This review is from: MSR Ground Hog Stake Kit (Sports)
The product is as good as any of the reviewers suggest but there is an alternative, the COLEMAN ALUNMINUM TENT STAKES 4 in a pack for 7 bucks at THE SPORTS AUTHORITY (a chain sporting goods store), in appearance and material they are identical to the MSR BRAND. I bought 12 for 21 bucks and I'm super happy with the purchase. Rather you go with the MSR or save a few bucks with the coleman model #2000001318 I believe you'll be happy with either.

We've camped on all kinds of surfaces from grass to gravel to hardpan, and these stakes work very well for every surface. Unlike the plastic stakes that so often come with tents, these will not break, split, or bend. These are better than the steel stakes with plastic heads, because as you know, the plastic heads are easily bent and broken. These stakes go into the ground with relative ease, and you can hit 'em with a mallet if the ground is that hard. Removal is fairly easy; if the ground is hard, hook the string over your mallet handle and pull. Out they come! We've never had a problem with these, and we have tried just about every kind of stake available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indestructible, never-lets-go tent stakes, August 12, 2010

The Kelty yellowstone tent that I bought came with those candy-cane shaped tent stakes made, apparently, of silver-colored room-temperature butter, which can't withstand being pounded into anything other than freshly tilled dirt. I stumbled across these tent stakes at REI, and thought that they looked quite a bit stronger (with a Y-cross section, it seems like they couldn't easily bend in any direction). Boy, was I right. When beach camping, I can pound these into hardened sand littered with large rocks, and not worry about bending them against a buried stone, no matter how hard I hammer. They grip the ground like superglue, and can't be bent by any amount of hammering. Best tent stake I've ever used.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sturdy Stakes, May 25, 2011

These are a bit pricey, I got 8 in a pack but they are the best I've seen yet. No more bending the stakes that is for certain. Depending on your tent you may wish to order two sets. These are as durable as they get folks, they work in the harsh desert ground and even in sand and ice. Check to see if you need more than 8 for your tent it is a worthy investment.

You get what you pay for and if you want stakes that will last a lifetime then here they are. I highly recommend them and they do come with the lanyards already attached.

5.0 out of 5 stars great stake, February 13, 2011

I used this tent stake on the great plains of Kansas. Two friends had their tents lift up out of the ground during high winds associated with nearby tornadoes. My tent was held fast and I didn't even worry at all. BTW this was in rocky hard ground and my stakes went in without as much effort as my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost indestructible., September 15, 2011

I got one of these as a sample with a tent I bought ages ago, I've used it now and again and it holds really well in a variety of ground conditions. If you have really rocky soil they won't go in, better off with a traditional nail-style stake that will slide between the rocks, but for covering all other conditions the Ground Hog is a winner. This week we put it to the test when we forgot our camping axe and I actually used the Ground Hog stake as a wedge to split firewood. By bashing it with a football sized rock I was able to split enough off a pine log to make kindling and start a fire. I expected it to bust right away, but it hung in there. Finally broke the peg but after *way* more abuse than I would have thought. Point being, these are some really tough tent stakes.

I bought a set of these for a student of mine who just received his Eagle Scout. He is an avid camper like me. I have used these stakes for many years and they are really tough. Will not bend, break of shatter. Highly Recommended!!
