5.0 out of 5 stars Great for traveling
Awesome little towel. It's not exactly as absorbent as one of those shammy things you dry your car with, but it still seems to soak up plenty. My wife and I both used the X-large one (i.e. 2 people to 1 towel) on our trip to Japan and it worked great. Packs small, dries relatively quickly (again not like a shammy or anything, but MUCH better than a regular towel), and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't dry fast
I like these towels and own several; but I want to clarify a point that may be helpful. These towels are extremely absorbent. That's a big plus. But they don't dry in "no time at all". If you are in a heated or air conditioned room, or a dry climate, they will dry overnight. In humid climates they can get funky if packed. I've found super thin cotton towels more useful in...

Awesome little towel. It's not exactly as absorbent as one of those shammy things you dry your car with, but it still seems to soak up plenty. My wife and I both used the X-large one (i.e. 2 people to 1 towel) on our trip to Japan and it worked great. Packs small, dries relatively quickly (again not like a shammy or anything, but MUCH better than a regular towel), and is nice and soft. Just a note here tho, don't expect to be able to wring this thing dry, you still have to let it air out some. The x-large is still smaller than a regular towel but not too far off. My guess is that most people would prefer the x-large for traveling unless they were doin' some extreme packing or something. It's almost as long as a normal towel in the longest direction, but it's about 1/3 shorter in the shorter direction. Also, in humid weather, like Japan's August, it didn't seem to dry even within' a couple hours, so sometimes we'd have to strap it to something and just let it hang out. Still, way better than a normal towel. We ended up likin' it so much while testing it out before our trip that we bought all 3 smaller sizes before leaving as well. The smaller ones really came in handy in the heat as we would wet them down and wrap them around our neck and use them to wipe our face and neck down to help us stay cool. Now we use them whenever we go on road trips here to visit family or vacation and have found we have lots more room in our suitcase and like the little pouch it comes with to pack it in.

UPDATE: These towels are not "thick" like a traditional towel, they are very "thin", just in case that matters to anyone. Not even as thick as a microfiber towel, in fact even a shammy is thicker. So at first you might think it won't hold much water, but it does a good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome travel towel., August 24, 2007

I bought this towel for my daughter to take to Italy with her this semester. Well, it looked interesting to me so I bought two more for my husband and I to take camping. They were so much better than I expected! They absorb water really fast and then they dry in no time at all! They also take up much less space than a regular towel. They will have a permanent place in my camper! The one thing that you might have to get used to is the feel. They don't slide over your body like a regular towel. For me it was really easy to adjust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy for lightweight travel, January 27, 2008

Really handy to have when packing light for any type of travel. Dries well and dries fast. I'm a minimalist, so I would probably bring this for weekend trips in addition to camping trips.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasons to buy this towel., September 8, 2010
This review is from: MSR Packtowl Personal (Sports)
I bought this towel in it's XL size a month ago and have had nothing but good experiences with it. It softens the more you wash it, if left to dry on its own it never gets a mildew smell, and folds up smaller than a tee shirt.

Specific times I've used it include

1) Draping over a car seat. The XL is perfectly sized to cover a driver or passenger car seat in a pinch after an impromptu dip in a lake or if you're all sweaty and gross from the gym.

2) Showering at the gym. Its so small there's no reason to not have it in your gym bag. The antibacterial fabric soaks up sweat and water with no odor and the XL is big enough to go fully around your waist if you're a guy over 5'8 and cover all the important parts if your a girl under 5'3.

3) Day hikes and overnighters. Unless you're an ultralight hiking fanatic, if you have room for an extra teeshirt in your bag then you have room for this. As a guy crashing at a friends place never leads to an awkward "Uhh you got a clean towel" convo and as long as I have a pair of swim trunks in my car I can go swimming whenever I want. Most importantly you can dry yourself off completely hang it to dry and it'll be good to go again in about 3 hours.

All around handy towel... Do yourself a favor and get the XL but wait for it to go on sale. It can get a little pricy.

4.0 out of 5 stars good towel, packs small, June 26, 2009

I took this towel on the 8 day Biking Across Kansas event. Its just the right size for toweling off after a shower, it is very absorbent and soft on the skin. The hanging loop is handy for drying. This towel is designed to dry quickly and it does that fairly well, although it was challenge to have it be completely dry by morning in the humid kansas climate. Packs small and has a good storage case. A bit pricey, but should hold up well for years of use.

This was my only towel for over two months while I worked in Mongolia and backpacked across China. It still serves me well as a travel towel and a camping towel. I have the "X-Large" size and it's more than enough for my 6'0 frame. Even in the muggy swamp of a Beijing summer it dried quickly enough to be used again in the evening. It weighs very little and packs down to the thickness of a couple of CD cases. It's very easy on the skin as well; softer than some terry cloth towels and certainly softer than a lot of hotel towels!

The only complaint I have is that the snap-loop came off after the first time I undid it. It wasn't a big deal but it was a minor annoyance. Upon returning home I contacted MSR about this and they took care of me with no issues or complaints. It's really a great product, but like anything that's mass-manufactured there are going to be a few that have issues and I judge the product on how the company handles those issues. MSR did a great job.

This towel is a permanent addition to my travel/camping kit and it goes in the carry on with me every time I fly. It's a solid product that's proved itself backed by a company that takes care of its customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good camping/travel towel soft, absorbent, packs well, May 15, 2009

I've had a need for a travel towel. I own the extra large and the hand towel version for days at the gym, swimming and traveling. I was careful to get one that was soft and absorbent. This one fits those bills! Unlike other towels at big box stores that can be rough, this feels soft and won't snag easily like some micro fiber materials. Should last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, February 10, 2011

I first want to say the idea of the quick dry towel is not that it dries quickly when hung up, but my squeezing and twisting it, it become almost completely dry. It took me a few days to figure that one out.

I got the medium, which was smaller than I expected, but it was adequate to dry me off. Used it every day for a whole summer, and it still works well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great - but small for a large size, May 31, 2011

I ordered this pack towel for my upcoming trip to Ireland - the towel itself is great! Works really well at drying off and dries quickly afterward. My only beef with it is that there is a huge difference between the large size and the extra large size. I ended up buying an extra large for my trip so that I had something to cover up with when using shared bathrooms - but I'm also going to hang on to this one for my camping trips when I need to pack light.
