Heavy price, but oh so light!, November 21, 2007
This review is from: MSR Pocket Rocket/Titan Kettle Kit (Sports)
When I first saw this little mess tin/kettle in a store for 50 bucks (without stove), I almost choked. That's a large chunk of change for a little tin can. But it weighs almost nothing.
The stove is great, tiny and comes with a triangular tube to hold it snuggly. The burner head is very small, but the flame comes out with such force that when you have it on full it spreads all along the bottom of the kettle and up the sides. With a slightly larger pan, it appears that you would get good heat coverage on much of the base.
I tried it out at home, boiling some water for a hot cocoa and using the kettle as a cup. Boils super fast. The handles heat up some with the flames licking up the sides, but you can adjust it to a lower output and this won't happen, I'd assume.
This is a fierce little burner, roars pretty good! It says you can fit the burner and a 4oz canister inside with the lid on. I haven't tried this, however it does fit an 8oz canister inside, and you still have the plastic case to put the burner in. Also comes with an elastic strap to hold the lid on when packed.

Great for hiking, November 7, 2010
This review is from: MSR Pocket Rocket/Titan Kettle Kit (Sports)
I can't be more pleased with this set, that I ended up buying two. I boil water in them and use them to cook dinners and soups on the trail. You can eat directly out of them (great heat proof handles) and they clean up nicely. The stove is mistake proof, clean burning and beats white gas hands down. Lightweight, durable, and dependable for hiking the AT, what more can I say.

Easy to Use, March 20, 2007
It is small and easy to use. Used it for backpacking in sierras and appalachian trail. It is boy scout proof. Unless you want to mess with white gas, stick with this light easy to use stove. I am passing mine to my 12 year old boy scout and getting another for myself. By the way,it does simmer contrary to what others say. Heat control is very nice. Just make sure you have the stove snug when attaching the gas canister. As a safety measure you must have the bottle securely connected and if they are not snug, they won't work.
