I own expensive blades and have for years, so take my word for it, buy this knife and you won't be disappointed.

I ordered 2 knives. One for me and one as a gift. I've wanted a Cold Steel Trailmaster Bowie since they were introduced. Couldn't afford one. I have owned a couple of CS Recon Tanto's, an SRK and a Recon Scout all of which have been factory seconds and good knives. I have several handmades by knife masters and an array of good and bad Chinese and Pakistani knives. Extensively used a Buck Nighthawk since they were first introduced out at the farm and camping. One of my handmade knives can shave pieces off and notch t-posts w/out blade damage. If you doubt that can be done, go find a Desert Storm era Master Don fighting knife and give it a workout. Bring money. Bring lots of money. I've experienced a full gamut of cheap and expensive knives so I think I know what I'm looking for in a blade. I examined both knives when they arrived. Shipping box was great and well padded, knife boxes were smashed but no damage to the contents occurred. Both knives when inspected were pretty flawless, good machine edge, not hair flinging sharp but adequate. Grind at the points was very well done. Neither were warped or twisted, blade grind was even on both sides. Guards were square, handle material is excellently fit. Blade is thick but feels lively in the hand. Since I've seen the videos on YouTube I know how they will perform with use. I'm impressed with the MT-151. It's not the best knife I own, but it's likely I'll pick up another as knock-about knives, more than good enough for camp use. It's bigger than my Buck and I can leave the hatchet at home. I won't leave an expensive knife in camp or the car or truck, I would this one. I would miss it if it were stolen though.

The sheath is another matter.

I just received this knife today, I was excited to test it out and have a beater version of the trail master. The packaging was very cheap, which is one thing if the product is great, another thing if it speaks about the quality of what's inside the box. The sheath is garbage, I knew that when I ordered the knife and that didn't bother me. I also read that several people had received a product with a slight curve. After getting my knife out of its plastic wrapper and sheath, under my first inspection it looked pretty good, especially since I had only paid 20 dollars for it. Looking at it more closely I saw that the handle and the blade were slightly offset. I was expecting a curve from the handle to the blade down the spine (if I received one from the bad batch that everyone talks about) but instead it was "twisted" from the handle in relation to the blade. In other words the angle of the handle versus the blade is off by about 5 degrees. It isn't major and the angle of the handle can be adjusted by the grip, but the quality control is definitely not top notch. However, I am definitely keeping the knife. It is a 20 dollar knife and you get what you pay for. This is definitely a great beater knife and has great weight for chopping, batoning, and every other outdoor activity you could think of. I almost feel bad leaving a poor review because I really do like the knife, it has good functionality and a pretty awesome presence. But, the quality isn't the best.

See my pictures above. With a little thought, you can make this a nearly perfect knife.

The stock sheath isn't great, but it's not beyond salvage. The handle is too small for my tastes, so it got a wrap of paracord (15-20') and ranger bands on each end (now it's perfect). It felt like it could fly out of my hand before, but with the lanyard and built up pommel that's now completely solved. I fitted two new closures on the sheath (see pix): One snap-strap for the stock handle (which replaced the standard velcro strap) and an elastic with tab that pulls up over the blade guard and fits the built-up handle (which is great when wearing gloves).

As for the knife itself, well, it's EXCELLENT out of the box... Truly great fit and finish, perfectly sharp edge (really), straight and true, with no rattles at all. It's a full 7-8 mm (1/4") in thickness and weighs exactly 1.05 lbs with original sheath. Splits knotty hardwood (even 6-7" logs) like butter. Chops down 5" trees easily. Great balance, great weight, great feel. Perfect setup when paired with a Mora 4" knife for fine work and Leatherman for basic tools.

Next enhancement will be to strap more gear on the sheath -- additional paracord, fire steel, tinder, a few bandaids. The sheath is just rigid enough to allow use of inner tube bands without crushing it. I think.

And I paid less than $20 shipped. Best deal out there (and I have over 40 knives up to $80 Becker BK and Cold Steel). This is now my favorite beater and will be on my hip for winter camping.

I gave this knife a 3-star rating because the blade is not dead on straight , i'm not giving 4 or 5 stars to a knive thats the blades not true. Now you could show this knife to someone and if you didn't mention it they wouldn't notice.
Now the good news, I have been checking around the web and people who own this knife are pretty happy with it. One guy on youtube really puts this knife through some heavy useage and it really held up well. For what this knife cost I really don't think you can go wrong.

You probably noticed it looks very much like the cold steel trail master , if your not ready to spend "trail master money" yet you probably would be happy with this knife and it won't break the bank. Maybe better anyway to go out the woods and beat on a 22 dollar knife.

If you are interested in this knife dont let my 3stars stop you its a bargin at 22 plus S&H
