Haven't used this knife yet, so I'll be short with the review.

The Good:

Big, strong, full tang knife with decent heft and it came fairly sharp.
The finish is good (non-reflective), the grind is good. The handles are impressive.
The Sheath is nicely done. Not too busy with the paracord, the knife is well secured in the sheath (no rattling around).

The Bad:

Can't really say anything bad about this knife. It has no obvious flaws that I can't live with. That's never a bad thing....

The Maybe:

I'm undecided as to the price. Most Mtech products are priced appropriately around the $20 or so mark. This one is twice that, but if I was SURE it wasn't worth that, I would not have bought it. I guess the question I'm asking is, will this knife make me (or you) say "Wow, I can't believe all I paid for that was $40!" I'm not complaining about the price, just saying that it may not be a clear winner in that department for everybody that is looking at it.

The serrations on the top of the blade raise questions. What are they intended for? They take up nearly the entire length of the blade, and this hefty sucker is clearly made for some heavy duty work. Well, you're not going to want to baton with this thing because those serrations actually have some bite to them. Those who baton wood will know why this isn't going to work. The way I see it, everything on a knife is either a feature (functional) or simply styling (cosmetic). On a big, relatively heavy knife like this, there should be no questions regarding jimping or serrations.

That may be a problem for those looking for a survival knife, and the other problem is that this is a bit heavy/thickish for fighting for the average person wanting a fighting knife.

As Crocodile Dundee would say . Now that's a Knife. This is a large beefy well made knife with a thick spine well suited for heavy outdoor jobs. The knife weighs in at 1 pound 6 ounces. The handles are large enough for the largest hand and fit very comfortably. 4 1/2 inches across the lower portion of the grip. the Blade is 8 1/2 inches with a 1/4 inch thick spine. The weight of the knife makes it chop like a small machete and even with the serrated spine the knife performed well at splitting (Buttoning) wood. Who cares if you chew up your beat stick a little. There are plenty more on a near by tree. The flat spine near the handle works well for using a Ferro rod for starting fires. The sharp serrated back edge of this knife showed itself well suited for cutting through rope and worked well to remove bark from trees and create wood shavings for starting a fire. I liked the sheath that came with the knife. The second pocket worked perfectly to put a second smaller knife for every day smaller tasks. The sharpness from the factory was less than desirable but with a few swipes on the sharpening stone it is now razor sharp. To test the sharpness I chopped down a 4 inch tree and it held its edge very well. Only time will tell if the five stars will hold up but for now. I am very happy with this knife. The price was the only draw back but I did not take away a star for the price. I could have saved 10 bucks and purchased a Schrade SCHF 37 but I did not like the Schrade handle. My son loves his SCHF 37 its a great quality knife. The new Schrade SCHF 51 which is suppose to have the same style handle as this knife. When it comes out Ill buy that one too and compare. But I truly feel this knife will be with me for a long time.

Excellent value and an intimidating weapon. The false edges on top of the blade do not serve any purpose, but this knife has a great feel in your hand.

Knife arrived with a cracked handle scale. The packaging was undamaged. Must be a poor QA done by the manufacturer
