Product Description

The EZ-Throw is the original patented design clay target thrower. Its one-piece design throws clay faster and farther than most mechanical throws and it will not break or rust. The "power curve", as we call it, gives you a smooth throw. So easy to use, whether you are right or left-handed, with a little practice, you will soon be throwing jump birds, curves and ground skimmers.

I've had one of these for awhile and finally learned how to use the thing. It works very well but does require some effort to get the clay to release. One thing you can do is stretch the pocket a bit so the clay releases easier, and another is to attach a stick or rod to the handle which will give the thrower more speed and distance. If you don't succeed try, try again and really give it a good throw. It's a lot like throwing a baseball sidearm. Aim for something in the distance and let her rip. I'm thinking of getting their latest model with the hinge which isn't supposed to take as much effort, but this one is good once you get the hang of it. I only gave it four stars because I thought the learning curve is a little long, and I really looked like an idiot using the thing over and over and the clay just wouldn't come out. You feel ridiculous, but everybody watching thinks it's hilarious.

I just ordered a replacement for my original MTM Target Thrower. The first one was approximately 15 years old and was used to throw 15,000+ clay targets. I know that sounds like a lot of targets but that is a conservative number! In earlier years I was using 800-1,000 birds per year. In the past two years, now that my sons are shooting too, I bought 40 cases of 135 birds each. We reload .410, 28 and 20 gauge shells so that holds the cost down...

The original thrower's plastic was fatigued after all that use and was not holding the birds well. The new thrower performs just as well as the original thrower’s performance when it was new.

You may ask why I use a hand thrower when we shot that kind of volume... The primary reason is that we are upland bird hunters and for practice we can easily vary how and where the birds are thrown. Secondly it provides exercise which is nice on a cold day. Amusingly enough, we do this shooting on a club range that has an electric trap! However, the shots from the electric trap, even with the wobbler, are so repetitive it isn't as much fun as the hand thrower... that and the battery always seems to be dead!

My primary adult hunting buddy also uses an MTM Target Thrower. We both tried other brands to see how they performed and to see if they offered us shot opportunities that the MTM couldn’t. The MTM still gets used... I gave the others away. For the typical user I think the risk of misplacing it outweighs the risk of wearing it out. If I ever wear this one out I’d buy another! Great product...

When we got this out of the package it was so rigid that the birds would break going into the thrower. The ones that did go in wouldn't come out. After about 15 broken birds I just pulled the tines apart and that seemed to loosen it up then it worked great.

We did learn that this thing will throw awesome double just by placing a second bird on top of a loaded thrower. No need for three people to throw doubles.

Was curious to see how good this worked so I bought one. Is easy to use and throws the traps out plenty far for trap shooting. You can get quite good with this, throwing straight or curving left or right.

My first MTM EZ throw has lasted me over 10 years and thousands of throws. It seems to work even better as it gets "worn in".

Recently we decided to purchase a second thrower for some trick shooting. I went to the store and picked up a second thrower. It was horrible, breaking many clays during both the insertion and release. When they did release it was almost impossible to control the point of aim.

I looked at the handle and realized that although my new thrower was identical to the old one it was made by a company called "Caldwell". After flexing both throwers it seems like the Caldwell thrower is made of a more rigid and brittle plastic.

I went back and purchased another MTM EZ throw hoping to get better performance. Thankfully my new MTM worked amazing out of the box.

PERFORMANCE NOTES:

With a little practice the hand thrower can be used to provide a wide variety of throws. If the handle is held slightly above plain and the throw ends with a quick backwards wrist flip the thrower will float the clays out beautifully in front of the shooter presenting almost the entire face of the clay. (good for new shooters)

Its also just as easy to wing blinding fast clays in all directions presenting a real challenge.

There's some good you-tube videos that provide some basic instruction.

BOTTOM LINE:

A great inexpensive way to get into clay shooting in some ways providing a better shooting opportunity than the expensive mechanical throwers once you get a bit of practice.

Good price, does what it is supposed to. With a safe place to rest your shotgun, its not hard to even throw your own.

Been using this exact hand thrower for many years. Machines are good, too, but the hand thrower makes it easy to throw targets in different directions and different speed without having to change some setting like on a machine thrower.
