I bought this as a joke from the outdoor section at Rural King. At first I thought, who in the world would hide something in the ground. I also thought it wasn't practical, because of not knowing how well it would seal, but I bought it anyway. I buried it with some cheap baseball cards in it to see what it would do. After a couple weeks I uncovered it and the cards were still dry.

Impressed I decided to buy a couple more on Amazon. This time I wanted to really test it out. I took one of them and buried it in a shallow creek bed behind my house. I put it about 2 feet into the ground before the spring rains hit. I put 5 pounds of lead in the SAC to see if it would oxidize. The SAC was buried for probably four months and when I took it out of the creek, the lead was in the exact same condition that it was when I put it in.

The seal consists of what appears to be a rubber o-ring and when the lid is placed onto the SAC and the screws are tightened, the seal does its job of creating the barrier.

After buying this as a joke, I am completely satisfied and if I have items that need to be hidden in the ground, I will probably buy more SACs.

THis has a screw on lid with a rubber grommet to keep water tight, and then another lit that fits over the whole thing to keep dirt and water off of the lid. It was very well designed. Also has a water tight bag for inside

I was surprised by how large this is. It is extremely well thought out and designed.
I make no claims as to how it would hold up underground, but I suspect it would do quite nice.
I will order more!

I have tested this item for 2 year underground and just pulled it out , I placed it 18 inch's from top of ground to top of the lid underground, I used the factory O rings but also coated them with silicon sealer too, my items was also vac packed in foodsealer bags with moisture eliminator, don't forget to place cord around the under side of the lid because you will never get it out of the hole without something to pull with. I placed a 1911 .45 handgun with 2 boxes 50 rounds boxes of Jhp, first aid kit from American adventure gear, one of the sleeping bags they make , fire starter with other basic survival gear, rain coat and space blanket, water straw filter, AA and AAA batteries with a light to fit them. All these item was Vac Pack to get the most out of the space inside without doing this you will never get your items inside. After 2 years all 3 blue dots was still blue on the moisture eliminator, each item had one Vac Packed with it. Just a ideal dig your hole in day time and place this in the hole at mid night in the dark using no lights and nobody will see you.

Ok, let me first start off by saying this is an awesome product that deserves 5 stars! It looks and feels like a quality item and I'm excited to use it. Aside from the vault itself, it comes with a dessicant bag (moisture absorber) that's roughly 3in wide by 5in long, and a large VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) bag. This thing looks and feels like it's meant to battle the elements!

So why after all the ranting and raving I've done, do I give it 2 stars? Simple. The shipping method. They shipped this thing (directly from MTM) in a full color advertisement box w/ pictures and descriptions telling everyone (including the UPS guy) "HELLO! I'M BURYING GUNS, AMMO AND VALUABLES IN MY YARD SOMEWHERE! PLEASE COME AND DIG IT UP AND TAKE IT FROM MY LOONEY ASS!"

The first rule of OPSEC (operational security) is to be as discreet as possible with everything you do. MTM lacks the common sense gene telling them that they should be shipping these in a plain brown box; not a box with a Survivor Ammo Can Infomercial printed on it making the purchaser look like some kind of "doomsday prepper".

I'd certainly order this product again because of it's quality and pricing ($19.99 on 6/23/15). But I'm highly perturbed that they would ship it the way they did. The whole idea behind this product is for security and discreetness. They blew it when they shipped it.

If you decide to buy this product and it shows up like it did to my house (pic below, yes that's the box they shipped it in LOL!), please rate it below average. The company needs to know that they need to change their shipping method.

This will arrive from amazon with the contents and pictures of the can screaming to the world what you just ordered and what you are planning to do. If you order this make sure to select gift at check out so they will put this in a plain box to ship it so you don't risk getting a visit by someone later on that saw you receive this and now wants to relieve you of said buried treasure. The whole reason for getting this and it's underlying safety is the secrecy of it and that will be destroyed if you forget to have amazon rebox this as a gift at checkout like I did.

This item should NEVER ship in its original packaging...wondering now if I should keep it or not,and if truly noted by thief guess it won't matter because they will still believe I did bury it anyway. Sad, because it seems like a great item and at a really good price. OPSEC is this items main protection and regrettably that was destroyed with Amazon's shipping. Sad

Seems to be build nice. I will revise if I have any problems, I would like to mention I did not look at the dimensions before I bought it and FYI it is a lot bigger than I thought it was. But they do specify the size in the information.

It was larger than I expected so I could put much more in it. I have it in the ground but until I dig it up I can't say how well its going to work. But I will say it looks like it should preserve its contents in good condition.

I was excited to receive this product, however it arrived with Survivor Ammo Can Underground ammo storage written largely across the box. So my delivery person said "Oh I see you are going to bury some valuables in the yard that's good to know". And now this product is useless to me. Why would a product meant to be kept secret so widely advertised on the box for everyone to see?
