Book Description

MURDER IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD...a smart, funny, and romantic tale of friendship, love, and murder.

After many hectic years as a military wife, Roxanne Flowers is busy enjoying time with her now-retired husband and supervising her six year-old granddaughter, not to mention fending off volunteer jobs thrust upon her by a nun who won't take "no" for an answer. So when Roxanne finds the body of a beautiful young woman the week before Halloween, she is more than happy to leave the detecting to her son Marc, an Eastport, Virginia homicide detective...until a retired astronaut who also happens to be an old flame is arrested and the abbess from a nearby monastery insists Roxanne must help clear his name. Only neither woman realizes that by unmasking a killer, Roxanne is placing someone she loves in mortal danger.

MURDER IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD was the 2009 winner of the Best Unpublished Novel Contest sponsored by James River Writers and Richmond Magazine.

"Head judge Susann Cokal says she forgot she was reading Kathleen Kay Chalmers' Murder in a Good Neighborhood for judging 'and just began to enjoy the story in its own right.'"---Richmond Magazine

K.K. Chalmers grew up in a military family, and has lived on all three coasts of the United States, as well as in Southeast Asia.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Time December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Murder in a Good Neighborhood has the charm of the mysteries I loved in the 80s with enough 21st century funk to feel contemporary. Chalmers has created a fun-loving couple who should appeal to those of us who enjoy characters we would like to have as friends. I hope a follow up is in the works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope to see more of Bud and Roxie January 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters - from a hip sexy grandmother to a former POW, handsome cop and astronaut were very appealing and entertaining. The relationships were fleshed out well and by the end of the book, you wanted to know more about all of the main characters. Certainly hope another book is on the horizon!

I enjoy a good mystery, and this definitely had me wanting to know what was going to happen next. Had characters that I cared for, and some good plot twists. Oh, and it was funny too. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made Me Read My First Book on a Kindle! December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From a standing start, Chalmers quickly envelops you in a world occupied with characters that you feel you have known for a long time. I'm pretty sure that this is the first murder caper that has a Granny splitting her day between puzzling over a series of murders and plotting to get her husband in bed at the same time. This has the feel of being one of many yarns about Roxi Flowers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good plot, better characters August 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
K.K. Chalmers shows her military family background with her description of the boxes that never get unpacked. So true! I liked the mix of characters (including the hints about less than 4-star parents). I liked the fact that Bud and Roxie are married but neither heading for divorce nor unbelievably happy with each other. The mystery itself was pretty easy to spot, but the action scenes were well done and I'd sure like to see more of the nuns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric Immersion July 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
K.K. Chalmers has done a terrific job of making the reader feel he is in the community where her story is set. The plot is most intriguing, and her characters are well developed. Will we be reading more about Roxi and Bud and Marc and Lucky? I certainly hope so. While no movie can ever do justice to the book upon which it is based, this story is a natural for the big screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder in a Good Neighborhood
I read this book and was not too impressed. It's very light and seems to dwell more on the delivery of cosmetics rather than the murder itself. Boring.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun
Good for a very fast read, but not much to chew on. A mystery mostly of fluff without much substance.
