Book Description

MURDER TAKES TIME grips you by the throat.

Nicky Fusco thought he knew right from wrong, living by an oath of friendship & honor with his three best friends. But life took them down separate paths, and the oath was broken. Secrets were kept. Years later they are reunited and the bonds of their friendship are brutally tested, putting them on a collision course set in motion long ago.

Murder Takes Time is not a typical murder mystery or mob story. It is a thriller, a romance, and a coming-of-age story that rips your heart out. By the time you're done reading it, you just might find yourself rethinking the definition of friendship & honor--even right and wrong.

Three boys, one girl. Friendship, honor, love--betrayal. It ends with murder.

"Oaths And Promises Are Forever-Or Are They"

--Review from Chris Phillips at Bestsellers World:

"Giammatteo brings new life to the typical detective murder story. He takes the time to develop a complex plot into an attention-capturing tale of intrigue and friends betrayed, remade and destroyed.

In this tale, there is a lot of right, wrong and terribly, frighteningly gray. When the time comes and it is needed for oaths to be remembered, they are forgotten and life is never the same. The murders draw them inexorably together yet again. The common thread shows how badly a betrayal of friends can mess up the men that were always supposed to be oath-bound brothers.
The characters are smoothly real. Giammatteo takes the time to develop them naturally. Each takes their fated place and struggles with the people they become.

The tragedy of the way these lives move brought tears to the eyes of this reviewer. The final betrayal is brokenheartedly realistic."

More Praise for Murder Takes Time:

"There is a reason why this book is rated so well. It simply is a great read."

Murder Takes Time is An excellent read about a group of boys/men in a dual timeline format. One chapter from a time in the past and the next chapter current day. Sometimes this works for authors and sometimes only one story line is good.

In this particular novel the author has done an excellent job with both story lines. They tie together extremely well along with a high quality plot. Combine it all together and you get a great read and one that deserves the overall high customer rating on Amazon.

This reviewer (and many others) highly recommend Murder Takes Time."

This book is spell-binding. Giammatteo writes as I feel he must have lived, and each boy's family life is explained to show what makes them the men they become. Friendship & Honor. That's what it all comes down to. It should last forever. --NLE

Clearly Mr. Giammatteo is not quite right in the head, as evidenced by the fact that he came up with the incredible "railroad spike revenge." It is one of the most finely crafted pieces of revenge fiction ever drafted. My hat is most definitely off to his creative genius.--Mich Carrnett

Editorial Reviews

Review

From eNovel Reviews:

"Giacomo Giammatteo may be the Mario Puzo of our time. His debut novel is breathtaking and groundbreaking. He creates a story that involves the conflicts of reality that pull at us from both sides of the tracks. This isn't your typical mob story."

From Keri English for Indie Reader:

"Murder Takes Time plows through your mind like a freight train. Heavy hitting and well crafted, Giacomo Giammatteo delves into the New York underworld from a fresh perspective. Part mob story, part psychological thriller, this book is not for the weak of heart (or stomach!) This is a new breed of book."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! April 24, 2012

I love to read and I read a lot, but I am not the kind of person who can't lay down a book until it is finished. A few chapters every day is fine with me.
Or so I thought...
"Murder takes time" just didn't let go. After the first few chapters, I just kept on reading and reading, eager to learn more. This book and the way it is writen somehow manages to put you right in the middle of the story from the get go. No drag and endless "getting into it". You read the first few pages, the first chapters and you are right there. I usually read a lot from Stephen King and lately almost everything from Dean Koontz I can get my hands on. And now I definitely have to add Giammatteo to the list of my "if it's out, get it" list.

This novel is not just a murder mystery.
This novel is not just a thriller.
This novel is not just a love story.
This novel is not just a life story.

This novel is all in one. Geniously combined in a way that never lets any part of it be too dominant. It is a very well rounded reading experience and I cannot recommend this book more. It is truly hard to believe that this is a debut novel. I read a lot worse from well established authors and hardly anything better.

The only word of caution I have to state is that this is not a book for kids. It contains graphic descriptions of brutal scenes and uses quite a few curse words. But hey, after all we are talking about a book that has the word "murder" in its title. And besides that, I think I would have a hard time imagining a mobster sayig things like: Oh what a pity! :)

In a nutshell: Don't miss out on this book. Go, get it! You will not be disapointed. And since I will buy whatever Giammatteo publishes next, look out for upcoming reviews :)

5.0 out of 5 stars In a category of its own. True page-turner! April 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I only RARELY read fiction, so for me to rave about this book and tell you I HAD to turn the page and see what happened next is saying an awful lot! (And by the way, for my fellow nonfiction lovers, parts of Giammatteo's book are based on real-life events so it's not fiction in the strictest sense of the word.)

What I liked most about this book is that it's unique. Murder Takes Time isn't easy to sum up, in part, because of that uniqueness. It's really in a category all to itself. In fact, to call it a "mob book" would be oversimplifying and would hardly do it justice.

The author cleverly weaves layers into the book (while still managing to maintain a fast-paced, action-filled, plot) so that, at the end of the day, there's something for everybody in the book. It's part mob story, part detective story/psychological thriller, part love story, part coming of age story all rolled into one.

A multi-faceted book like that might seem impossible to pull off without one facet of the story detracting from another (I'd be thinking that if I heard someone else say it) but you'll just have to trust me here...or see for yourself. The author does it so well that each facet compliments the others and only makes the story that much more interesting. Just as you feel like you've figured someone out and wrapped up one mystery, he teases you with another.

SIDE NOTE: The whole time I read this book, the one thing that kept jumping out at me was how it would make a great movie, but for the life of me, I couldn't pinpoint why. Something about it just gives you that impression. Maybe it's the way his characters come to life and you feel like you can PICTURE them, maybe it's the suspense that you can just imagine playing out on the big screen or the fact that it's mob-related and full of action. I don't know, but I hope someone in Hollywood reads this book and does make a movie out of it.

As good as the book was, it would make an even better movie! I'd be curious to hear if others got the same impression.

PS - You probably figured this out already, but don't hand it to your kids. Some of the murder scenes are a bit graphic and it has strong language. Other than that, it's a gripping read with something for everybody.

5.0 out of 5 stars CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT BOOK IN THIS SERIES!!! April 16, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really liked this book, it is exciting and gripping. MURDER TAKES TIME gets your attention fast, it is riveting and nearly impossible to put down. The characters are strong. I particularly like the way the author does the narrative and dialogue.
It is difficult to believe this is Giammatteo's first novel. He has a vivid imagination and is a great story teller. I can't wait for his next book.

More About the Author

I live in Texas now, but I grew up in Cleland Heights, a mixed ethnic neighborhood in Wilmington, Delaware that sat on the fringes of the Italian, Irish and Polish neighborhoods. The main characters of Murder Takes Time grew up in Cleland Heights and many of the scenes in the book were taken from real-life experiences.

Somehow I survived the transition to adulthood, but when my kids were young I left the Northeast and settled in Texas, where my wife suggested we get a few animals. I should have known better; we now have a full-blown animal sanctuary with rescues from all over. At last count we had 45 animals--11 dogs, a horse, a three-legged cat and 5 others, and 26 pigs.

Oh, and one crazy--and very large--wild boar, who takes walks with me every day and happens to also be my best buddy.

Since this is a bio some of you might wonder what I do. By day I am a headhunter, scouring the country for top talent to fill jobs in the biotech and medical device industry. In the evening I help my wife tend to the animals, and at night--late at night--I turn into a writer.
