A must for the novice a reference for the initiated; xlnt
The text takes a confusing, subject and gives order and a sense of simplicity in its systematic and progressive approach. The plethora of examples contain step-by-step explanations and build upon the books previous lessons. Though the style is not tutorial you do have a sense that the authors are taking you by the hand and guiding you to JCL mastery. This book could...

Good teaching guide but quickly becoming outdated
This book is good for teaching JCL to beginners. It is quickly becoming outdated as it does not cover the new MVS/ESA enhancements such as IF/THEN/ELSE condition code logic, standalone keywords such as RECFM, LRECL, etc. This book should be considered for a beginner but not as a reference due to the outdated nature of the book

Though the style is not tutorial you do have a sense that the authors are taking you by the hand and guiding you to JCL mastery. This book could well substitute for a semester of JCL in college.

This book explains JCL for all levels of programmers. Since being updated for MVS/ESA, it contains all the new JCL features available. It is handy as both a reference and a how-to explanation.
