Pretty good mic for the money, September 2, 2005
This review is from: MXL 2006 Large Gold Diaphragm Condenser Microphone with MXL-57 Shock Mount and Carrying Case (Electronics)
I got it for a locution actually, and it's a very good mic. Could be better with a right preamp though, at least better than mine, but from money/quality aspects is a very nice mic with clear response and even nice looking :)

This microphone is as good as my previous audiotechnica mic which cost me 200 dollars more... the store where it came from, musicianfriend has other great offers as well and the mic, by the way, was delivered very fast.

Great microphone for the money., February 25, 2010
This review is from: MXL 2006 Large Gold Diaphragm Condenser Microphone with MXL-57 Shock Mount and Carrying Case (Electronics)
I had only used dynamic microphones before, and was always annoyed at the clicking when you turn them on and off, and the level of buzz I'd hear when I turned up the volume very far. I'd have to put my mouth right on top of it to have it loud enough without the awful static. I decided I needed a condenser microphone, but since music production is just a hobby, I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This microphone absolutely blew me away.
Pros:
*Since there's no on-off switch, there's no clicking which is nice.
*It comes with a shock mount which eliminates the noise when you move the microphone around. It was always really noisy to try to move the mic when I wasn't using a shock mount, but this makes it really handy.
*Absolutely amazing sensitivity. I can't overstate this enough, this microphone picks up EVERYTHING. I turned it up a quarter of the way on my mixer when it was pointed towards the center of my room, and I could hear my clock ticking, cars passing by, and even the words from the television in the other room. It was crazy.
*No static when it's up at levels high enough to pick up background noise.
Cons:
*The description didn't specifically address this, but just so you know, this microphone does NOT come with an XLR cable, you'll need to buy one separately.
*My previous dynamic microphone didn't pick up a lot of background noise, so when I'd play my midi drum pad, I couldn't ever hear the noise. With this one, you definitely can. Noises you wouldn't think would pick up absolutely do, so keep that in mind. It's not really a con, but it's certainly something to be aware of.
Summary:
This is an excellent microphone, and you absolutely can't go wrong with it (especially for the price). Also, in case you don't know, condenser microphone are VERY sensitive to moisture, so a pop filter is a must!
