This review is from: MXR 10 Band Graphic EQ w/ 18V power supply (Electronics)
I bought this for bass, so I could take down tones that would compete with guitarists and bring the bass up to a dynamic level that would mesh well in a group. I have been playing on this for a year now, and I highly recommend it for bassists
That being said, I also dabble in guitar, and this pedal is amazing in the respect as well. It brings out a lot of nice tones, and when you couple it with any other effects, especially distortion, you open up a whole realm of different sounds. My guitarist had been staring at mine for a while and the other day I let him try it out. I nearly had to pry it from his fingers. He had been trying for ages to bring out a certain sound using just his Amplifier EQ knobs, but when he tried this he nearly broke down in tears because he could finally dial in exactly what he was looking for, and he could modify that sound to his liking as well. This is a very effective pedal for Bass, Guitar, and for vocals! I have a mic that requires phantom power, but I have found that running it through this gives it enough boost to record into my non-phantom computer interface. Versatile, well constructed and easy to use. I feel one mistake I made was not getting the KFK version with two outputs, but this is a professional piece of equipment and I guarantee that in 5 minutes anyone will find a setting that brings their sound out in amazing ways.

Like most MXR products, their 10 Band Graphic EQ is built sturdy and works like it should. 10 bands stretched across 31.25Hz to 16Khz; each band is 1 octave above the last. +/- 12db adjust for each band plus input AND output level adjustments which are useful to dial in different sounds (drive the EQ or drive your amp). Also makes a great boost for that certain sounding lead. The red illuminated sliders are easy to see in the dark and also indicate ON/OFF. This unit doesn't operate on batteries. You have to use an 18VDC supply, wall-wart included. I have a PedalPower2 and I'm running two outputs in series to get the correct voltage. 10 bands offer more specific control compared to the common 7 band stomp boxes. If you're looking for a clean, well built stomp box EQ, look no further.

This is yet another stunning piece of MXR equipment suitable for live performance. Ten designated bands of EQ adjustment with easy to use LED-lit sliders. Volume and gain faders, foot operated on-off push button control, all in MXR's typically rugged housing. Clean, effective EQing. Great for bringing out just the right frequencies on guitar, bass, keys, etc. Requires 18v negative center power. At $100 a perfectly functional to-the-point piece.

I purchased this on a recommendation from my Bass teacher and I was really impressed by how much tone control and shaping this unit does. It really helps you dial in lows, mids or highs depending on the type of music you are playing. I use this on G&L SB1 P-Bass, G&L JB2 Jazz, G&L L-2000, Musicman Stingray, Fender fretless Jazz Bass, Fender P-Bass, and even on my Takamine Acoustic Bass plugged into either an Ampeg Micro-VR Amp or the Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 Amp. The center foot switch is really handy, when you want to default back to your instruments natural sound. What impressed me also was sometimes it filters out some of the hissing my pickups sometimes do. I don't know if that was intentional in design, but it's a plus in my book. The construction of this equalizer is really sturdy, all metal and a little heavy, but that's a good thing in my opinion. The lights on the sliders is really handy if you're on stage and it's dark. Overall this is a great product if you have an amp that has limited tone shaping and you want more precise frequency setting and it's easy to use. Enjoy!

I bought the MXR M-108 and so far I'm quite pleased. It really makes my amp sound so much better than without it. I run the MXR in the effects loop of a Peavey 6505+ and a 7 string w/EMG pickups. The MXR seems to make the biggest difference in the lead channel but the clean channel is also improved with the eq. The construction seems rock solid and very durable as well. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

This pedal is amazing...within just a couple of minutes, I had figured out settings that made my LP sing more clearly than I have EVER heard in 15 years. Full control of your tone. I wasn't too excited about this pedal because it's not some funky effect, but I now will never turn it off. I play a LP through an Orange tube amp, which is a nice setup to begin with...but this pedal makes my tone 100 times clearer. The notes just jump off the low strings, and the highs are pristine. I am thrilled!

Great product, not only does the 10 band EQ help get that exact tone you want but the separate gain and volume control really helps to hit those harmonics. Great for Fender amps where there is no Hi, Mid or Treb on the overdrive channel. I ordered through OneNationElectronics and it took a week longer to get it then they quoted.

NO GUITARIST SHOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT PLAYING WITHOUT THIS! Years ago I tried a Boss EQ pedal and returned it because it was way too noisy. I pretty much decided EQ pedals were not the way to go. But recently I bought the ESP PS-1 Ltd guitar (http://www.amazon.com/X-Tone-Paramount-Hollow-Electric-Guitar/dp/B004TH8XK4/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1327779272&sr=8-9) which I highly recommend. It has the tone quality of a Gibson Les Paul but lacked the edgy sound I get from my Gibson SG which has lousy intonation even after setting it up. I thought about putting the SG pick-ups into the ESP guitar, but then thought I'd give an EQ pedal another try first. They didn't have the Boss in stock so I got this MXR model. WOW! WOW! WOW! This thing is so clean and quiet! Now my ESP guitar ($250 closeout)runs circles around my SG ($550)without even breaking a sweat! I had no idea you could alter the sound of your pick-ups so effectively with an EQ device. I'd go so far as to say you can make a Les Paul sound almost like a strat with this device (and probably vice-versa!) Create your own signature sound with this or match your favorite guitarist's sound. This will make you LOVE your guitar so much more! After playing with this for an hour or so, a switched the by-pass on and I can't believe how bad my guitar sounds without it! Truly amazing. I especially recommend it for Les Paul owners who want to expand the character of that sound. It could very well save you from having to by another guitar to compensate for what you're not getting with your existing guitar no matter what guitar you're using. Gee, can you tell I'm very happy with this purchase, or what? :) Rock on!

This pedal works well, and lets you sculpt a pleasing sound to suit the situation. A little goes a long way with the sliders, and the gain and level functions are occasionally useful. Nice accessory for a tube amp or an amp lacking good onboard eq. It makes it much easier to dial in the exact sound you want, easier than messing with eq knobs that can interact with each other.Ten bands is a little overkill for guitar. Three of them are outside the range of the instrument, but I bought this one because I like that it blinks if clipping, it has the extra volume and gain sliders, and comes with the AC adaptor. This adds no noise that I can tell, except if the sliders are up it amplifies noise already there. It's an all around quality product that I imagine I'll still have twenty years from now. |
