This was the first pedal I ever bought. In retrospect, maybe I should have bought a fuzz box first, but that's my fault, not the box's. This box doesn't make your sound get fuzzy, pulse or turn somersaults, but that's by design.

This was the first pedal I ever bought. In retrospect, maybe I should have bought a fuzz box first, but that's my fault, not the box's. This box doesn't make your sound get fuzzy, pulse or turn somersaults, but that's by design.
For those of you who haven't used a compressor, it makes softer sounds louder and louder sounds softer by reducing (aka "compressing") the dynamic range of the instrument. At less extreme settings, it adds some sustain and a bit of extra attack that helps to cut through the live mix. If you set the compression too high, however, you will end up with no soft or loud passages at all-everything is the same volume, even finger and pick noise.
I like to use this pedal for a clean solo boost and to keep some definition when using other effects. I set this pedal up before the fuzz boxes and wah pedals, put in a little compression (I set the Sensitivity to 10 o'clock or so) and set the output to match my uneffected volume. This gives me a little more attack and sustain and adds a brightness that works well with the other boxes. If I really want to get a clicky, percussive, clean 80's new wave sound, I turn the Sensitivity knob up just past 12 o'clock and I sound like I'm in the Cars.

All you have to do to use this is set the maximum output level and the sensitivity and you are on your way to sweet sustained tones for lead or rhythm guitar. You can also use it to add presence to a bass guitar. This is a compressor with variable gain for constant output level. The plastic knob covers that come with it allow you to use your foot to make adjustments while playing, although this unit is more of a set in and forget it type of effects pedal. Excellent product for the price! David Gilmour or Pink Floyd and Lowell George or Little Feat use this device!

I did a extensive search for a comp pedal, I saw a lot of video reviews at youtube and at last i found a winner. This pedal does not mess with your tone and adds no undesirable noise. When you turn it on is like take something out of a hideout and make it visible. For the price you got a pro comp pedal under $ 80. Check out for great deals at Amazon! If I lost it or broke it, I will buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compression pedal, October 5, 2010

I bought this compression pedal to give my leads a little extra oomph and it does just that. When playing hammer-ons and pull-offs, sometimes it can be difficult to get them to sound as loud as the rest of your picking, but not when using this pedal. It amplifies your quieter sounds and levels off the louder ones to give a smoothe sound. Works great if used correctly. Not to be used with dynamic picking sounds because you will lose that louder/softer sound.

I use this with a Gibson Les Paul, and Washburn Hollowbody through a Fender Super Champ amp along with other pedals. It can cause some major feedback if using heavy distortion.

...and still going strong. Literally thousands of hours out of this little box. Set it. Forget it. It just works. And works and works. Indestructible, too.

I'm writing this review now because last night I played a gig W/O my DynaComp. It's not impossible - but this thing makes it so much easier.

A simple, tough and effective compressor. 2 dials, doesn't need more. Great for live use. Anything more and you're looking at a much more costly product if you want the same or better quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Any Keith Richards fans? This is a MUST, January 21, 2012

What can I say? I was expecting a clicky, clean sounding compressor when I bought this because I enjoyed my friends Boss CS-2. What I got really wasn't what I expected, but in a good way. This is the BEST crunchy overdrive/clean boost money can buy. I set the output to (almost 3 o'clock) and the sensitivity right at 9 o'clock. WIth my Telecaster, it's pure Keith Richards tone, and yes he was an avid user of this, the green analog delay (now redubbed the Carbon Copy in a more compact casing) and the Phase 100. Is it noisy? Hell, yeah, but for a clean boost, I ain't complaining. Perfect for lead/rhythm Keef stuff. If you're a Rolling Stones fan, this would be the FIRST pedal to purchase. Again, sorta compressor, but more of a crunchy overdrive. This thing just says, "Look at Me When I Talk To You." I am referring to the new block logo version, BTW. Not sure about the older script.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, November 28, 2011

Single best stomp you could put in your chain. Especially great for guitars that don't have super hot pickups. Smooths everything out and puts a lot of punch and life into your rig. Works great in a analog chain and equally well in front of a digital/effect/amp-modeling unit. This should be the foundation of every rig.
