Book Description

In this riveting and eye-opening essay MY LIFE AS A PRIEST, Irish novelist Tom Phelan looks back on the eleven years he spent as a Catholic priest before he "successfully escaped."
Phelan, who was born and raised in County Laois in the Irish midlands, is the author of the novels IN THE SEASON OF THE DAISIES, ISCARIOT, DERRYCLONEY, THE CANAL BRIDGE, and NAILER. His next novel, LIES, will be published in 2014.
Phelan's first novel was selected by Barnes & Noble for its Discover Great New Writers series and was a finalist for the Discover award. He is a 2008-09 Fellow of the Christopher Isherwood Foundation, an honor granted on the basis of his novel THE CANAL BRIDGE. In 2012, he was the fall writer-in-residence at the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco.
The essay comprises close to 3000 words and is followed by information about the author and his novels.

Very good essay, showing a picture of the Cahtolic priesthood from an insiders point of view. Sadly, it's essentially the same known for years. Myths regarding a helping, celibate priesthodd go on and on, while the Church becomes less important in most developed countries. Maybe the new pope will shake things up a bit..
