Did not enjoy this game as well as other hidden object games. Did not like the 360 degree search.

This review is from: MYSTERY IN LONDON: JACK THE RIPPER (CD-ROM)
"Mystery in London" is a Hidden Object game in which you search for various things cleverly hidden in the various environments.

Even though I love Hidden Object games, what intrigued me about this game was the incredible scenes of Westminster Abbey, especially the Henry VII Chapel, Piccadilly Circus and the exterior of Buckingham Palace. You will be searching for objects all over London, including pubs and posh stores. The objects are very hard to find but you have the option of panning 360 degrees so you are able to swivel around with your eyes just the way you'd do in person.

You'll learn quite a bit as you do along as many interesting facts are presented, but in order to proceed you have to solve a series of mini-puzzles tied to the plot of the player's tracking down the identity of Jack the Ripper. The mini-puzzles are not very hard but you simply have to get through them. You can opt to not do a certain number of them. The plot is slightly on the weak side but it is better than the plots of most Hidden Object games.

What makes this game extraordinary is the scenes. The Henry VII Chapel alone is worth the price of the game. You also get to visit the small Peter ad Vincula Chapel where the beheaded Anne Boleyn, Katherine Howard, and Lady Jane Grey are buried under the floor. It's almost like being there! You stand there and you think "those poor queens are right under my feet!"

"Mystery in London" unlike many Hidden Object games, is not one that will appeal to children. This game is for the connoisseur, one who appreciates simply splendid panoramic graphic art. And it's perfect for the Anglophile and the lover of London.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 'eye- candy' of actual British landmarks absorbing history, and great game play., February 8, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This is a favorite of many Hidden Object games that I own, because of it's beauty alone. It is amazing to see, plus I love hearing that British accent of the narrator!

First of all, despite that this game is about the unsolved case of Jack The Ripper(unless you believe the conclusion of the game)it is completely family safe. There are no gruesome details or photos in it,so enjoy this beauty with the whole family.

The mini puzzles are simple enough for me to solve alone, without help, and I am a game-genie and/or game walk-through player!Plus you can skip many.

There are many, many places to visit, some returns also,so this is a pretty long and involved game, not one you can plan to just blow an hour or so playing, unless you have the willpower to walk away.

The beauty and sound of this game must be experienced. I lived in England for 2 years and the scenes are real places, and I really enjoyed the gameplay.
I don't believe any fan of Hidden Object games could fault this one in any way. Do yourself, your family and your gaming friends a favor and treat yourself to Mystery In London. I believe you will be glad that you did. It will be hard for any game to beat the graphics by Big Fish Games on this one!

Mystery in London is in many ways, a cut above other hidden object games. The storyline itself (the search for the identity of Jack the Ripper) is fairly interesting, but the way the game designers make you search for objects is what is so neat. Each location features a 360 degree view of the location; you use arrows on all four sides of your screen to look up, down, and around. In addition, some levels require you to find objects that are moving or that are shown to you only in silhouette (which was VERY HARD sometimes). My favorite thing about this game, however, is the fact that it is very meaty; you get a LOT of object finding and a ton of locations to look through. Each time you complete a location, you get a neat little fact about that place. I really did want to hop on a plane to London while playing and see these real-world locations for myself! The game took me quite a while to finish, and I felt like I really did get a ton of game for my money. I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone who likes a fun challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top-notch hidden object game, April 29, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

First off I just want to say I loved the artwork in the cut scenes, the charcoal drawings of the old London streets. That really set a good tone for the story (and made me wish I had even a smidgen of artistic talent). The actual story backdrop was a nice, continuous piece, as well, not something that felt thrown together like so many of the other, cheesier hidden object games (I'm look at you, Mysteryville). The biggest challenge (and nice addition) of this game was the multi-screen locations. It added a nice level of difficulty, in that you didn't know which of the areas the items were located in. Don't worry, though, even this didn't make the game too difficult, and there were some nice between-level puzzles to mix things up.

Overall I'd rate this very highly in the hidden object game class, right up there with Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate. If you liked that game (or any in that series) I would *strongly* suggest you check this game out. It's worth the time and money!

I ordered this along with another hidden objects game. I really like this type of game. It can be challenging. However this particular game is disjointed to me and finding the clues without help can be confusing. It has a built in magnifying lens but I wear glasses and this is not always a big help. One of the best things about this is the real pictures of London!!! If I had a trial before you buy; I wouldn't have bought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, I'm afraid. Suitable for hearing impaired., July 5, 2009
This review is from: MYSTERY IN LONDON: JACK THE RIPPER (CD-ROM)
This game is very pretty, although I have to say I don't prefer 360 degree, 3D searches. It is mostly a hidden object game (HOG), with some find the differences, seek-a-words, etc. thrown in.

While the game has a decent magnifier built in, I don't know that it's suitable for the visually impaired because so many levels use a "moving object" thing to mark the objects to be picked. The movement is a subtle breathing-like expansion that may not be clear enough for many who don't see well. Hearing, however, is perfectly accommodated with excellent, and complete, captions.

Always loves Travelogue series., great chance for travel to EUROPE for free., somewhat! Loves the realistic scenes, music and 4 skippable mini games. Only that i don't like the tomb church much...

Plus it has TOURIST MODE, means NO TIMER, you can take your own sweet time to find the objects, you have the clean scenes for viewing after finishing the game.. Mini games are replayable, scenes are clean when you revisit them, to me, it's one of the best and top HOG ever!

It has really nice game interface, for those who doesn't like to look around up and down left and right as if you are really in the scene, you can choose static view, that will has square screen instead but whats the purpose of playing a Travelogue 360 without using having its 360 degrees viewing??

Not to mention the mouse zooming view to let us have closer looks on the scene. Easier to find items that way..

Not only that, i visited the official site before, the production really flew and got some photos, do researches on local facts, history, this and that, thus, i assume it cost $$$$ some budget more than any other HOG ever created.

This could be one of the most expensive HOG compared to other HOG, that is why the economy downturn has left it without further more sequel develop on this game while other games already has its best selling sequel..

Overall, it's the most worthy HOG ever by looking at its current price at Big Fish, i totally loves this game and it's the only HOG game that i will not uninstall from my pc, so that i can replay once a in while..!!

P/S: Some tips for Amazon.com community, i would advise to use keyboard key instead of mouse for turning..
Which means, instead of pointing the mouse cursor to the 360 degrees ball, it's more easier to view and turn around by just using the KEYBOARD ARROW KEYS, which is the "up, down, left, right" arrow keys..

Hope this help alittle and makes the trip more relax... ;)

This was a great game with loads of H.O. Graphics could be a little sharper. Unique 360 view was interesting and fun. Story was OK, could have been a little more mysterious. Over all the puzzles and clues were fine. Will order more of this series.
