While no one anymore seems to even recall who Jupiter, Pete, and Bob are, I have never forgotten and thus get to read still these great novels. In this novel, the 3 Investigators go on a road trip escorted Pete's absentminded uncle and his secret-invention across the USA, encountering a nosy neighbor, mixed up film, and a gang of bikers set out to sabotage the trip...

While a lot of people consider this the worst of the Three Investigator stories, i have always viewed it as one of my favourites. The trio along with Pete's cantankerous grandfather make a cross-country trip where they seem to be followed at every turn. The usual mix of thrills and adventures abound in this volume of the series. I know M V Carey's style is quite different from R Arthur's or even W Arden's, but she still captured the "magic" of the series. Don't miss this one-it's a winner!
