5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, March 21, 2002
This review is from: O'r Mabinogi (Audio CD)
I am really impressed with this CD. I bought it on an impulse, because I really hadn't heard the tracks well enough to make a fair judgement of whether I liked it or not.. but I'm glad I did. I love Celtic music, especially if it has that olde time flavor... this CD doesn't have that flavor, but that doesn't take away from it in the least. I would actually call this "Celtic Trance". The beats are like those that you would hear in a club, but the instruments are genuinly Celtic, and the lyrics are magnificent. I love the sound of Welsh, and when it is written as beautifully as these songs, you can't as for more! The only downfall I can find with this CD is that it is a little "new agey".. I'm not one for Enya and Yanni. Though some tracks on this CD (like #1) resemble them, I still like it, which is saying a lot. To top off the great music, the CD is set in a detailed, colorful, and high-quality case with a long booklet. The lyrics are in Welsh and English, with background Mythology. Its splendid!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enigma meets Enya!, August 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: O'r Mabinogi (Audio CD)
This amazing piece of aural soundscapes, sung in Welsh by the sweet-voiced Renee Grey, never strays far from my CD player. The beautiful other-worldly vocals and synthesizer effects combine with laid-back dance-pop beats, lush orchestration and infectious melodies. Fans of Enigma will find themselves on familiar territory here with the dance themes, and Enya fans will love the vocal performance. Also, the track listing on the CD is different from Amazon.com's version...the actual tracklisting is as follows: 1) Porth Annwyn (The Gates of Annwyn) 2) Yng Ngolau Ddydd (In The Light of the Day) 3) Dial Bendigeidfran (The Revenge of Bendigeidfran) 4) Morwyn Y Blodau (Lady of the Flowers) 5) a. TirGwastraff (The Wasteland) b. Cwynfan Pryderi (Pryderi's Lament) 6) Blwyddyn I Heno (A Year From This Night) 7) Teyrnas Y Ser (In The Realm Of The Summer Stars) 8) Fel Yr Fira (Like The Snow) 9) Rhiannon All the songs have vocals save for "Teyrnas Y Ser". Some also take a while to get going. But that does not detract from the whole experience. There is a lengthy booklet that comes with this CD that explains in detail the myths and background information. For a real treat, read the booklet, put this CD into your player and listen to this CD in the dark under headphones. You won't be sorry.

What more can I say. I am an Enigma fan, and love Celtic mythology. This cd is the best blend of both styles I have EVER heard. One listen, and I was hooked. I definitely recommend this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enya and Loreena McKennitt fans - be alert!, November 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: O'r Mabinogi (Audio CD)
Here's a CD you should consider adding to your collection. Of all the Celtic legends, the tales that make up the Mabinogoin are some of the most riveting and mysterious. On "O'r Mabinogi", Renee Gray and Andrew Fryer, collectively known as Ceredwen, weave the legends of the Celts into a haunting and spellbinding series of Welsh tone poems, reminiscent of the works of Enya and Clannad, and though the folk melodies are steeped in tradition, Ceredwen carve out their own twist on modern technology, full of enchanting vocals, infectious rhythms and sparkling instrumental work. This is a release that is brimming over with originality and musical daring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting, very different, August 7, 2001

Very interesting album, good to hear the tunes sung in Welsh instead of English. I like many of the songs and the delivery of most of them. I guess that I'm what might be called a traditionalist in that I would like to hear something with a traditional sound, this one is good but very modern. Probably most Enya listeners will find something to like here although I'd say she's closer to the past in her styling.

I first heard 2 songs off this album on a Sampler cd for Real Music when I was working in a book store. I don't know much about music, but I certainly know what I like and I was in tears, listening over and over again to those 2 songs before I went out and bought the CD...That was 6 years ago and this CD remains one of my all time favorites!! I can't recall EVER hearing music so moving. This has to be the most "hauntingly beautiful" music I have ever heard. Truly Amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Enchanting, May 11, 2000
This review is from: O'r Mabinogi (Audio CD)
I can listen to this CD beginning to end, over and over and not get tired of it. Such beautiful melodies and vocals will never become tiring. Sounding very much like Enigma and Enya, with perhaps a bit more Celtic mythology and influence thrown in, Ceredwen (pronounce KER-ed-wen) creates a masterpiece. Everyone should own a copy of this CD, if not to listen to for pleasure, to put on as background music to relax to. No need to delay--this CD should be in your player today!
