Mabis BP Monitor,
By Dorothy A Black (Jackson, Tennessee United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mabis 04-203-001 Digital Manual Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
The Mabis BP Monitor is easy to use. The digital read out is nice and big. Only has 2 buttons (one is power the other is memory). It remembers the last reading taken. But best of all is customer service. There is an 800 number on the back of the unit. We needed a larger cuff than came with the unit. There were no questions asked other than the model number (which is also on the back of the unit) and where the cuff needed to be shipped. And there was not even a shipping charge. I highly recommend this unit. It is reliable and there is customer service if it is needed.

I was introduced to this product because my grandparents were told by their doctor to get a machine so they could monitor their own blood pressures. When the got this particular machine, they called me to come over and make sure they were using it correctly since I am in the medical field. The machine itself was pretty easy to understand what to do and the directions were pretty clear. The only problem I had was that the bulb that you have to inflate proved to be extremely difficult for my grandparents to use because of the arthritis in their hands. This meant that either I had to take it or my grandmother had to inflate the cuff with one hand while the cuff was placed on the other arm. This posed her with some questions about the reliability of the readings. While this may seem like a pretty simple machine to operate, if you have any hand problems, this is probably not the machine for you.

If you want a very easy to use, inexpensive, blood pressure monitor, this is for you. It is very easy to assemble and even though it does not inflate automatically, it is very easy to inflate and that's all you have to do, inflate then sit back and wait for your blood pressure and pulse. I had bought a model that uses the stethescope which was almost impossible to do by myself and it cost almost as much as this model. Wish I would have checked Amazon (like I usually do) before making my first purchase.

This is a no frill bp monitor. This can actually be a good thing since there really are not too many things that can go wrong with it. For example, it has no electric pump that can break down. The features it does have are adequate. They are auto shut-off and last measurement memory. The readings seems to be accurate and they are also fairly consistent. I won't bet my life on this machine, but observing trends in my bp measurements gives me some indications on the success of my exercise and diet program. Well, so far so good.

I was instructed by my doctor to monitor my blood pressure so I purchased this product. It's small, light, easy to use and fast. With just a few simple and easy pumps the machine displays the blood pressure and pulse in BIG easy to ready numbers. Highly recommend.

The monitor is easy to use and runs within a few points of the nurse here at work so I would call it accurate as well. Doesn't have auto shut off so you have to remember to turn it off. It only stores the last BP reading in memory. I would like to see at least a memory that holds the last ten readings. Warning: taking your BP can become an obsession :) Try not to get too worked up about it :)

Unreliable - do not use if monitoring your BP is essential,

... to maintaining your health. I tried this out because the reviews looked good. So when I got it, I put the product together and positioned my arm as recommended. I got a blood pressure of something like 86/63, which is way lower than what it's normally at (around 122/78).
This thing also does your heart rate, and I found it to be off by about 20-30 beats, when using my fingers to feel my pulse for comparison. I experimented with this product several times on myself and on my husband, and the results were never satisfactory. I took my husband's blood pressure, making sure the cuff fit as shown in the picture, and having his arm in the proper position. His BP turned out to be 118/84, according to this product. Ten minutes later I whipped out a stethoscope and sphygmomanometer (the old-fashioned way of getting BP and the equipment with which I was trained), and came up with 138/88. That's just one example of the wacky numbers I got. Also, if you have a significantly larger arm, you'll need to buy the larger cuff (sold separately). Don't waste your time on this. I don't think there is such as thing as a reliable for-home-use electronic BP and pulse monitor, at least not what I have found or heard of. Wait until the technology has improved.

Not accurate and Hard to use,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mabis 04-203-001 Digital Manual Blood Pressure Monitor (Health and Beauty)
I bought this blood pressure monitor because it was simple, cheap and the other reviews were positive. However when I got this product I was very disappointed with it. For one thing to get the cuff in the right position and tight enough is not easy by yourself and even when you get in on correctly the readings vary quite a bit. After struggling with it for a while I gave up and returned it. I had no problem with the quailty of the unit but I was never was able to get a consistant accurate reading.

I got this product because the grandparents of my husband need a BP monitor. And knowing their old, I thought I 'd get them I digital one so it would be easier for them to take their own blood pressures. My husband tried it himself and it gave him a high reading. He told me that this machine is inaccurate. I guess sometimes, one of the disadvantages of using a digital bp monitors is really giving you a false high reading. My suggestion is... double check it with a manual or check both arms and if the reading comes close then maybe its correct.

This is overall a great deal on a blood pressure monitor. I'll get to the cons first then the pros. cons are it don't auto inflate, bad for someone that may not have strength to squeeze the bulb for inflation. No memory, other than it remembers the last reading done. it sometimes takes a bit for the machine to get ready to take pressure upon power on, and the beeping sound it makes when it is ready to read pressure is hard to hear. now the pros. The meter is small, but has a real big readout, easy on the eyes. It reads out your pulse in the middle of display. Runs simply on 4 - AA battteries which were included with unit. Squeezing the bulb fully each time it don't take much at all to inflate, provided of course cuff is snug at start, and it has an easy push button air release. Cuff is made very well, nicely sized, strong velcro to secure to arm. For those of you who may not know, the arm is more accurate than the wrist to read blood pressure, another plus as this unit is arm read type. I highly recommend one to anybody that needs one and wants the best deal for the dollar. Very satisfied.
