I love the fact that this little basal thermometer is to the 10th degree but wish that it had a back-light. It is hard in the mornings to see the display since you are to take your temperature as fast as you can and without much movement.

I bought the Mabis BBT after the store brand BBT I purchased took five minutes to give a reading. I researched this one well, and was excited to see it only took a minute and was inexpensive.

Yes, it's quicker than the bad thermometer, BUT it takes more like 2 minutes to register, and the display is NOT "large and easy to read" by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it's quite difficult to read without being tilted in the right light, and the display is the same size or smaller than most of the thermometers I've seen.

I believe it IS reliable and accurate. Plus, it's only around $8 at my local Kmart (I was desperate to get one quickly). It recalls the last reading, and the beeping when it's done isn't annoying or loud enough to wake me up fully (a good thing, for me).

Overall, I think this is a fair product in the lower BBT price range, but there are likely better thermometers out there if you're looking for speed and ease. I would keep this one if charting was a shorter term activity, but because I'm planning on doing it for years to come, I'll likely buy the BD Digital Basal Toni Weschler recommends (though it looks like Amazon doesn't currently carry it, unfortunately).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not too happy, March 1, 2007

I bought this thermometer at a pharmacy. I agree with the previous reviewer that the display is not large and easy to read. I don't even try to read it in the morning, but use the memory recall to record my temp when I get home in the evening. However the little button you have to press to make the beeping stop is the same button you press to recall your temp. The button is small and already in a depression on the thermometer, so it's not easy to press. I have trouble with it even when I'm not more than half asleep. If you mash the button too hard in the morning, your temp will not be recalled. Very very frustrating if you are waiting to "get down to business" after a fertile phase, but you don't know if your fertile phase is quite over yet because you can't get your temps. I'm trying something else. Best of luck to all of you!

I love the fact that this little basal thermometer is to the 10th degree but wish that it had a back-light. It is hard in the mornings to see the display since you are to take your temperature as fast as you can and without much movement.

I like the memory feature but wish that was a second button on the unit. It displays TWO temperatures and I am not sure what the second temperature is all about. I am ASSUMING the first number with the "M" next to it is the memory recall of the last reading.

The button is flat and I find myself fiddling with it to activate the thermometer.

I like that you can get charts off the Mabis website...so that is a plus.

Overall it is a good BASIC basal thermometer. I would spend extra money to purchase one with a light, if there is one like that available.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't give the correct temperature., January 11, 2011

I purchased this item on 12/28/10 and was so excited to finally get one and start tracking my temperature because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Unfortunately the temperature is around 1.5 to 2 degrees off which means a lot when it comes to this kind of tracking. Also when I first received it the battery was dead so I had to go out and purchase a new battery for the thermometer. Other than that the item is in great condition and comes with all the needed information to correctly take your basal temperature. I just wish I didn't have to try and figure it out whether it is 1.5 or 2 degrees off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK, October 29, 2008

This is the only basal thermometer that I own, so I can't compare it to other thermometers or vouch for its accuracy. It seems to do the trick. I have used it every morning for the past two months, and sometimes the beep sounds a little weak, like maybe the battery is starting to die already. It does not beep while it's in your mouth, so sometimes I wonder if it's even working if it takes a long time to reach a steady temp. It doesn't light up so you have to turn on a light or take it out of the room (if it's dark) to read it, which is kind of a pain. It comes with a clear storage case. Not bad, but I would buy one that lights up if I were to buy another.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother..., September 29, 2008
By
I bought this product several months ago. Initially it worked fine. The button was annoying and the screen was hard for me to see, but I could deal with that. Then, all of a sudden my temperatures began getting significantly lower. I chalked it up to a battery problem, despite the fact that I'd only had it a few months and the battery sign had yet to come on. After I replaced the battery, the problem continued. For a thermometer that is supposed to be accurate to 1/10th of a degree, my temps were registering .5 lower than normal (I checked using another thermometer and got about what my temp. normally is). I switched to a different brand, but none of them seem to be perfect. Still, I wouldn't even bother with this one.

I purchased this thermometer so that I could have a second one on hand because I travel a lot. I took my temp immediately after purchasing just to see how it worked and it read really low. I checked with my old tried and true thermometer and the Mabis thermometer was .7 degrees lower than my BD thermometer. I rechecked twice and each time the Mabis thermometer gave me a different temperature. I cannot trust this thermometer to rely on it to prevent pregnancy. I'm only glad I did not spend very much on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate, April 13, 2011

I bought this thermometer to chart my BBT in order to avoid pregnancy. I found that after using it for months, my average morning temperatures were in the 95-96 degree category, which caused some alarm. Later, after taking my temp with other thermometers around the house, I discovered that my temperature readings were off by 1.5 degree! I've thrown this one out and am now hunting for a more accurate thermometer since this one does not work. ~Anne, not Tom :-)

I've used this for about 2 months, and it has worked well. I just wish it had a light so I didn't have to use my cell phone each morning to see the temp! Next time I will know to buy one with a light. :)

It works fine. I got pregnant right after buying this, so I didn't actually get to track any full ovulation cycles, but it works fine and isn't too expensive. I also used it to take my infant's temperature (covered with a well-lubricated nitrile glove and inserted ~1/2 inch into the anus) because I didn't have an infant thermometer, but my baby seemed sick. It worked in a pinch for that purpose too.
