Everyone with a child needs a thermometer in the house! Ordered this one and it came pretty quickly and didn't work (something wrong with the battery connect, I believe). I returned it and they even sent me a new one BEFORE they received the broken one. Now THAT's customer service! The replacement works fine.

Super easy to use and no probe covers. A simple thermometer - when you need to know someone's temp without a lot of bells and whistles.

A lot of these types of thermometers don't work too well, but this one is worth the money. It does take some practice to understand how to hold it for proper temperature reading, and I suspect many people who have problems or claim it doesn't read well may be inconsistent in it's use, although I can't say for sure.

The Mabis is fast, seems quite accurate and doesn't require the use of covers that add to the cost and can make it other brands inconvenient to use.

I recommend practicing with it on the people you will use it on most, while they are feeling well. Test in both ears until you get a consistent reading and note how you are holding it in the ear. Like any thermometer, digital or not, the biggest trick is in the way you use it.

My infant daughter was ill with 101.5F fever and gastro enteritis at 4 months old. This thermometer picked up readings as accurate as the anal probe the pediatrician used that same day! Our readings were almost spot on. Clean it with a little cotton swab and menthlated spirits or rubbing alcohol.

I have been using this thermometer with excellent results for about 4 months now. The glow in the dark feature has proven very useful.

Easy to use.Readings are acurate, and feel confident to have a way to monitoriyng the temperature of my baby, or everybody at house. tiny, useful, and my baby think it is a toy, then i use this without rush.

I really enjoy this product. It works for the children as well as the adults in the house. I really like that there are no probe covers to worry about. It makes it really easy to just check a temp without all the fuss. Nothing is better than a rectal core temp but when I compared it to the tympanic...pretty darn accurate. Mine came with a little case and the only thing I wish was that it was a bit bigger(the case). I have the alcohol wipes to clean it between uses and if I could have some in the case....it would be perfect!

I have used a few different models and brands of instant read thermometers, and this model hasn't performed to my expectations. I realize this is instant read and it takes readings from the ear, both of which make it less accurate. But taking several readings within a minute or from both ears would reveal a great variance in temperature (3-4 degrees). That's unacceptable for me. I got a Braun instant read thermometer and it takes much better readings (consistently gives the same reading within a minute and is close, around .4 or .8 degrees to standard thermometers).

I just needed a handy instant thermometer that worked. This compact little item really gets the job done with no fuss or bother. It is not frightening for children who may dislike being picked/prodded especially when they are not feeling well. You get used to the low beeps which, eventually, do aid in quick relief or growing concern over the presence of a fever. I am a grandmother, so i have tried quite a few of these products over the years, yes, including the old fashioned mercury thermometers and I have found this one to be accurate and very user-friendly. Also, not having to replace lens covers is the best convenience of all..a little rubbing alcohal after use is all it requires. A very nice product that travels well.

I see ear thermometers being used by doctors' clinics for years now. I always wanted one. But everytime I compare the price with an ordinary thermometer I can not justify the price to buy my own. Now the price of these kind of thermometers have fallen so much that I decided to get one.

You need to compare the readings of your old thermometer to get comfortable with its accuracy. Make sure the entire circumference of the tip is in contact inside the ear when taking a reading.

Update: (11-3-2010) Broke after 2-1/2 years of use. No longer registering high temperature even my kids have 100+ fever.

We always get temperature readings below 98.6 degrees when reading people without fevers. First time I tried the screen read 94.6 degrees F. And, the readings seem to vary quite a bit. Also, the instructions say you are supposed to send the unit back to Mabis every (was it two) years? for re-calibration at a cost of about $15.

Maybe I don't know how to use it; but, we were quite disappointed.

I don't know how many times I have read the instructions. I put it in my ear and it beeps at least 3 different times and shows different results every time! Very unreliable.
