Couldn't find my 15+ year old hot water bottle for a while and cold toes motivated me to purchase this one while I kept looking. Compared to my old bottle:

This bottle is made of thinner material and is slightly smaller. Being thinner makes it more flexible, to wrap better around my toes. This also makes it potentially messier to fill, the opening lip keeps wanting to occlude the filling hole. Haven't noticed a difference in how long the water stays hot.

The opening for filling is smaller and the screw to close the bottle is plastic. You must fill the bottle with a slower stream of water to avoid splashing, but that's not a big deal. The screw requires me to actually look at what I am doing, but it has held up with no leaks.

This bottle is also a tiny bit narrower and shorter than my old one. They say they hold the same amount of water and I think that is due to this one being more flexible. It can get fatter than my old one.

Yes, there is a smell to the materials, but it is the smell all new rubberish materials have. Or am I the only one old enough to remember? Anyway, the smell does diminish significantly in time. This arrives new, sealed in plastic from the factory, and the smell is strong when first opened. But it does diminish.

Over all, I am thrilled with this water bottle, especially when you factor in the price. Yes, I know they are now making "fashion" hot water bottles, for over double the price, but REALLY!!! If you want fashion, then get a cute cover. You don't hold a "naked" hot water bottle. You are going to wrap it in something or get a cover for it. Even for my toes I use a cover. Splurge on the cover, but don't waste your money on the bottle. For what it is, this is a functional item at a truly fantastic price and I definitely recommend it.

I am SO pleased with this water bottle that, every time I fill it up (twice a day or more) I think of coming back here to write a review. Finally, I did so, and here it is:

If you buy from the company I did, HealthEGoods, you will not be disappointed at all in the service or delivery. By far, their shipping costs were lower, which was a huge deciding factor, for me. It seemed rediculous to buy a four dollar bottle and spend upwards of ten on shipping! I got this wonderfully built, excellently designed hot water bottle delivered to my house for the grand total of $8.85 (includes shipping) and one week before HealthEGoods estimated time of arrival.

My husband wanted a water bottle as well so we went to Walgreen's and spent $12.95 on his, plus tax. The Walgreen's bottle is smaller, thinner, not built as well [mine has raised ridges on one side to better directly disperse heat on contact], has only one hole by which to hang it [mine has a hole on each end] and mine also has a much sturdier fastener/cork than the Walgreen's one. Mine has a thick rubber stopper hole reinforced with metal; the cork itself is not cheap plastic and has a rubber O-ring. The Walgreen's one might sport a little wider neck but the cork is cheap plastic, the threads are wider and thicker [doomed to leak eventually] and flimsily made. Mine holds more water, mine keeps water hot longer, and it does NOT smell. It is made of rubber as compared to Walgreen's latex, but only if you have issues with such things [allergies] should that ever become a deciding factor. I opened the package outdoors because I read the horror stories here about this bottle smelling so bad. It does not "reek" of anything, certainly not gasoline, (!!!) and the slight rubber odor (fresh out of the package) was not offensive to me at all.

Who knew it could be so hard to find a basic hot water bottle at a drug store? But it is! So I was happy to find these online.
I knitted several "cozies" for these for holiday gifts, it holds the heat in nicely and it just makes it more enjoyable to curl up with something soft and pretty rather than the plain hot water bottle.
The price on these is fabulous, and you get the best value if you order several and save on shipping. Shipping from this seller, by the way, is nice and speedy!

It's a HOT water bottle - why anyone would want to put ice in it...??!! I purchased it because it was 100% rubber (natural, sustainable, etc...) rather than plastic (phthalates). Yes, it smells like rubber, but it diminishes with use. No leaks. Shipping was fast.

What truly amazed me was how long it retains heat. I put nearly boiling water in it at night, wrap it in a thin towel - place it in the bed (under the covers) near my feet, and in the morning, it's still warm (not hot, but warm). We're talking 6-8 hours of heat. I do have a foam mattress, so it may be the combo of the two.

Growing up I refused to have an electric blanket on my bed and instead opted for the safer alternative as I saw it. I bought these for my kids and the faint rubbery smell instantly took me back 20 years! They loved their hot water bottles in winter and now it is getting warmer they miss their comfort. Not only good for keeping kids toasty, I have used a hot water bottle to ease toothache, period pain and post natal tenderness. I wouldn't be without it.
