when I first heard this cd it was in the late seventies on L.P. and I was hooked. As much as the music is brilliant and there is a wide subject range the lyrics were what struck me. Mac could say things in a song that I could never imagine finding the words for. Its a crazy world was the first song i had heard but it was Barney and Real people that struck a chord the most. People call me Jesus is as honest a look at life and people that there is . I am a writer and and this was probably the album that turned me and gave me inspiration more than any other. On most of these songs you will think of people and situations in your own life and relate; it is that well written and performed. Mac has never received the recognition he truly deserves as a writer and a musician but this CD started my appreciation of him and his brilliance. Turn the lights down, light a candle with your favorite person and enjoy a mellow and truly awesome cd. DARREN SEGUIN

After years of mediocre, commercial Mac we finally get a CD re-release of the real deal. Real People, Samuel Arisin' and, most of all, Barney are genuinely good music rivaling (at that time) Bat McGrath, Randy Newman, John Stewart, Buffett and Bob Martin as top singer-songwriter talent. Lots of Mac's later stuff was a bit contrived or made with Nashville in mind. But this album is exceptional. Thanks to whomever for getting it back out on CD - shame there weren't any bonus tracks from this era.

I've been a fan of Mac's since I first heard him in the 70s (on WZZQ in Jackson, MS), and have made it a point to see him in person whenever possible. This album is his most original. Live audiences seem to love Barney best, but Alive is one of my favorites, and Samuel Arisin' gets everyone up and singing along. His guitar playing is pure and perfect. Definitely a must-have for any fan of Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, or Sawyer Brown (who he produces).
