3.0 out of 5 stars Small Omission July 29, 2011

Buyer beware, especially for system builders: this isn't the retail install DVD. This is the "CPU Drop-in DVD," which can only be used on a system running OS X 10.5 Leopard to upgrade it to 10.6 Snow Leopard.

5.0 out of 5 stars I know why your here! Please read September 22, 2012
EDIT: as of 11-21-12 apple has (again) started selling this software on their website. Im assuming its in response numerous calls in regards to iTunes update error. Prior to that, you had to call apple directly and order over the phone. At the time of this review, the 1 star rating wasn't for the product itself but for this re-seller extorting consumers (he was charging close to $60 as opposed to $20 directly from apple). Rest assure that the software is 5 star. My original review is below /END EDIT.

I'm pretty positive as to why your here.

You eagerly waited for the iphone 5. You finally got it and now you want to sync all your stuff from itunes into your new Iphone 5.

Lo and behold you get a stupid message saying your itunes isn't compatible with your OS (your probably running 10.5.8 or lower).

You do your research and find amazon has the OS you need (10.6.8). However, The disks range from $60-$100!!!

Long story short- in order to get this DVD for the cheap price of $22, you must CALL 1800-my-apple. DO NOT CALL an actual apple store and Do not try to order from (neither place will have what your looking for and will direct you to a re-seller).

The wait time over the phone took me about 30 mins but its better than paying a jacked up price. Also the shipping from apple is lightening fast. THIS IS A NO BRAINER HERE.

Secondly- once you get the disk. YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE TO UPDATE from 10.6 TO 10.6.8 (ITS FREE AND CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM THE APPLE SITE!) After you download 10.6.8, you will be able to download the new itunes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Received USB Drive, Not DVD August 19, 2011
Verified Purchase
When I purchased this product, I read that OSX 10.5 and a DVD-ROM was needed. I really thought I was getting a in a box, like the photograph. I got a USPS package with a jump drive in it. No packing slip, no instructions in the package, just a USB stick in an envelope. I was expecting the delivery, so I figured out what had happened and inserted the USB drive with my fingers crossed.

I had some trouble, but contacted the seller and he did give me good advice on how to make it work. In the worked.

4.0 out of 5 stars Price is too high September 9, 2011
The product itself is worth the money but anyone can buy Snow Leopard from the mac online store for $30 (at least for the single-pack). These prices are way too high.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you thinking about buying this, DON'T. September 14, 2012
By Chris
I have a black Macbook early 2007 model (10.5.8) , knowing this I was unable to download Mac OS X Mountain Lion. So I did the next best thing and came to Amazon where I would be greeted with awesome prices, but I was wrong. I managed to call Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE) and ask about upgrading, within a few minutes I was greeted by a representative who asked for some information regarding my current Macbook (Hard drive space, ram, ect.) to make sure that I could run the Snow Leopard (10.6) and then Lion (10.7). After billing my total was 40$ (for both Snow Leopard AND Lion) and a shipment within a week. Call Apple (1-800-692-7753).

1.0 out of 5 stars Call Apple September 10, 2012
I was about to buy this, but it seemed absurd to pay nearly $100 for such an old version of OS X. I called Apple (who redirected me to Apple Care) and they took care of it over the phone. Snow Leopard is $20 shipped direct from Apple and includes 90 days of phone support.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your $ October 5, 2012
I just called apple and ordered this same software for $20.00. You can buy the disk brand new directly from them and once it's installed it automatically does a software update for you to take you to 10.6.8. The Mountain Lion upgrade is $20 in the apple store. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine product March 15, 2012
As a research scientist -- now retired -- who has been using computers since 1958, I am a fanatic supporter of Apple's computers and their OS X operating system. I've recently upgraded my iMac with Snow Leopard and am very satisfied with it.
