1.0 out of 5 stars BATTERY LIFE and charging is horrible -- DO NOT BUY, December 21, 2005

At first, this product SEEMS awesome. It connects via USB to any PC I have tried and has great transfer and playback. The design with the headphones and built-in rechargeable battery is a great idea; however, once you start to use it... you find the MAJOR flaws.

First, the manual is horrible (example paragraph about charging, and exactly as written, pg5 #5: "a. When the MP3 Player is connected to PC, the Red and Green LED will be constantly on. When the Green LED will be off and red LED is blinks constantly the charge is completed." First, wow, learn English: when will these companies learn the manual is the 2nd most important part to the product. Second, the 1st sentence is completely impossible, there is one LED, and you cannot have both red and green at the same time 'constantly on'. The rest doesn't make sense, and DOESN'T happen. BEFORE YOU PURCHASE, you should download the manual and read it for yourself: http://www.macvision.com/images/doc/MA168.pdf

When charging, the manual says the LED will turn green upon completion of charging, however, my player does not ever turn green during charging, it stays red for hours. The only change that occurs is flashing between red and orange while transferring data.

The charge only lasts about 30 minutes. I have tried charging for different lengths, and it seems that as long as I charge it for 30 minutes, it gives me the same playing time as if I charged it for 4 hours. The device shuts off after about 30 minutes of playback and SOMETIMES if I do not use the device immediately after charging (say let it sit in the plastic case that it came in over night) it will simply not startup, etc.

I noticed that they just changed company names or something, from MacVision to Nextar. Also, the service email address they have under their contact area doesn't work, HOWEVER the sales contact listed will forward you on to their "customer support", however it doesn't help too much.

Lastly, the design of how you connect to the PC looks good; however, there is a manufacturing flaw. You connect (what looks like a standard headphone plug) to the side of the device. This is a problem because they did not leave enough room for the plug so it scuffs and gets worn down. Also, you have to make sure to remove the sponge cover, or it will get destroyed when you plug in the device.

If my situation changes, I will re-post another review to correct this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for, November 3, 2005

The features were nice for the money although I really wished it had a radio. Still, I bought it with moderate expectations hoping to use it during my workout to listen to some audio books that don't require high quality audio sound. Well, it arrived in defective condition - it wouldn't connect to my Win XP PC via USB port. Having taken a close look at the way it is made I decided to get a refund rather than a replacement. Wasted time.

To Amazon's credit I must say that they make returns as easy as possible under the circumstances.

This was the biggest waste of money. It doesn't work. Or, better yet , the only thing that works is the Red LED light. I followed all the instructions and retried them 5 times, when I press the play button , all I have is DEAD SILENCE! Don't waste your money on this item, I can't believe I had faith in this item and wasted my money on it.
