5.0 out of 5 stars It's the BEST OS I've ever used. Period., January 4, 2006
By
This review is from: Mac OS X v10.4.3 Tiger (DVD) [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
No hype, seriously it's the best operating system I've EVER used. This version, 10.4.3 includes the latest updates to the OS, which will save you a lot of time because you won't have to download that many update files. Even though there are other patches, the download time won't be as long. This one's up-to-date!
I've always been a PC user, and like most PC users I used to bash Macs. About a year ago, I was re-introduced to Macs and to OS X. Last time I had used a Mac it was in 1995 in High School.
I started liking the stability of the OS, the ease of use, the absence of virus & the rest, so I ended up buying a Mac just two months ago as of this review.
Nothing but great things. I'm extremely glad I switched. My XP PC is sitting in a corner. There is no need for me to use it.
The stability of the operating system is unbeliavable. I had my system running straight for 26 1/2 days with no reboots, and it did not slow down, lag or locked up at all.
MAC OS X Tiger is also a safe and secure OS. For once, it doesn't suffer from Virus, Infections, Spyware, Trojans or Adware. Windows XP is, unfortunately plagued by all of the above constantly.
The dashboard is just wonderful, I can have fast access to my calculator, map, encyclopedia, system stats, rss feeds, news, stickie notes. You name it, and there's probably a widget for it.
Spotlight, also a new feature in Tiger, is an extremely fast way of finding information in your computer. It searches as you type, narrowing down the closest match as you enter more information. It could be an email you sent or received in Mail, a contact that you have in your Address Book, any PDF or Word file, bookmarks, music, pictures, keywords...if it's in your Mac, spotlight will find it fast.
If you are a Windows user thinking about the switch, wait no longer. Microsoft will only hope to release an OS as stable and easy to use as Tiger. Yes, there are a few bugs here and there, but that's why Apple updates their software regularly, to enhance the OS and fix the little bugs.
If you're a Mac owner with an earlier version, I strongly suggest investing in Tiger. I hear some people say it isn't worth it if you're running Panther (10.3.x) but Spotlight and Dashboard are very worth it. These are very fast and precise tools that enhance the user's experience, making it work in your Mac a lot more fun and much more productive.
I'll say no more. I'll leave it up to you to try it out. Go to your nearest Apple store and check it out, then come & buy it from Amazon because they have a lower price for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buying a Mac? Learn about OSx86 and VMware., April 10, 2006
By

This review is from: Mac OS X v10.4.3 Tiger (DVD) [Old Version] (DVD-ROM)
Apple announced that Intel core duo processors will be used in the new range of Macs. Hardware developers and programmers and just about everyone else ask what is stopping OSX from running on a non-apple computer with Intel processors... turns out that there was not much except for some code in the OSX software. Then somebody changes the code in the fall of 2005. Now everyone who wants to see and use OSX before they buy gets VMware, obtains a copy of OSx86 and boots the latest Mac OS on Windows or Linux. This is not dual booting. VMware is virtualization software. Modern hardware is fast enough to run other Operating Systems at 75% or above speed at the same time. Seeing OSX running on Windows or Linux will have eyes open wide in the room around you. For Mac users who have shelled out their hard earned cash on a Mac, seeing this reaches down into the very depth of the soul. Apple announces a new boot camp that allows Macs to dual boot Windows, but not virtualize it. Back in the 80s - 90s there was good reason to own Mac hardware. In the 21st century all hardware companies are mostly using third world sources to build their components. So in terms of Mac hardware versus clone PCs, there is not much difference anymore. OSx86 booting on a non-apple computer is the biggest event in the history of Apple Macintosh. It will make you think.

OSX is great. For anyone who has booted Linux or FreeBSD can see the advantages of having a desktop that is better than Gnome or KDE. That is OSX. Beneath OSX is a type of FreeBSD-like system. That is a UNIX-like system. Mac software does cost money though. There isn't much more to this topic other than the above. This is the current model of thought when it comes to OSX. There are many in denial that OSx86 exists. The development is that significant. Just learn about it. Then consider your next move.

5.0 out of 5 stars mac os x, December 19, 2005

Mac OS X Tiger is the greatest....it combines the power of Unix with the ease of Mac's GUI. I am finally fed up with windows so i decided to switch. I have wanted to switch to mac for so long. I can still run all my windows programs if needed with an emulator. Mac osx is the best and windows can never make something close to it.
