I waited a very long time for this song to become available through Amazon as a digital download. I was thrilled when finally it was.
My oldest daughter dismissed this song because of the improbable metaphor. However, for me, a child of the 60's, it was heaven.

A Trenscendental Moment,

I fell off my chair, threw my headphones on the studio floor and stared up at my wife, 11 years my junior, who believed Donna Summer sang this song. I knew she had, but it mattered not as I washed my face and collapsed in drunken reverie at everything and everybody that caused me to sign in blood to the hippie ethos after hearing this stunning, immortal recording. Timeless, priceless, meaningless and peerless.
Love it, own it, revelation and vindication, we were right on target!

Weird Al did this song, therefore it is highly relevant and valuable,

There were no drugs involved in my appreciation of this song when it was new. But something really important happened in 1993, when Weird Al Yankovic made his parody of this song the centerpiece of his Alapalooza album. There are many highlights in Al's "Jurassic Park" version, perhaps the best the image of a T. Rex eating a lawyer. "Someone left the cake out in the rain" becomes "Someone shut the fence off in the rain".
You can't enjoy Al's version nearly as much unless you are familiar with the original. Buy / download it today!!

Richard Harris gives a stunning version of this 60s anthem. His voice and delivery bring real meaning to the words, recapturing the times. An excellent musical interpretation complements his voice, producing the essential feelings for those who remember those times or wish to. This is a very long version, as was intended by the composers and is truest to what they wanted. One of the most moving songs or the era.

Fantastic song. I never realized who the original singer/writer was, but I did like his version very much. So take that $1.00 you were going to use to clog your heart with a McDonald's small fry and by this song instead!

This is likely the worst song ever written.
I mean seriously look at these lyrics... All the sweet, green icing flowing down... Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again The only reason people actually liked this song in the 60's and find it nostalgic is in a word, drugs. Lots and lots of drugs... |
