5.0 out of 5 stars Great for picnics.
I purchased two softballs and they were a hit at my wife's family reunion. You don't need gloves (although, you could use them). Just a bat and the balls will allow you to play. We use the rule bounce or fly; catch the ball on a single bounce or fly & the batter's out. Highly recommended. P.S. Yes, I grew up in Chicago.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a "mush" ball at all
The MacGregor 16" softballs are nothing at all like the "mushballs" we played with when I was a kid. These things are rock hard. There's no way I would try to catch one of these bare-handed, much less let my kids play with them. As soon as I received them I ordered 2 Easton Incrediball 16" softballs instead. These are much mushier, and much more like the balls we...

I suppose serious Chicago-style softball players may prefer the MacGregor version, but for casual games with players of various skill levels definitely go with the Easton version.

THIS WAS AWESOME... WE USED THEM ON A MISSION TRIP WHERE THE KIDS DID NOT HAVE GLOVES AND THE BALL IS SOFT ENOUGH TO CATCH BARE HANDED BUT STILL HITS LIKE A REGULAR SOFTBALL

A 16" softball makes it easier to play with a family reunion. No one needs a glove, especially after the ball softens up. It's easier to hit. The balldoes not fly as far allowing you to use a smaller field.

Not quite the "mushball" I was used to from high school. Pretty firm. A few good bats and it softened up a little bit. It'll have to do.

I bought this ball just for my young son to play with because he had never seen a 16" softball. Quality is good and my son loves it.

We bought this as a gift, so can not personally testify for it. But, it came quicker than it was suppose to, which is always a bonus. Plus, it looked like it was very good quality. We have also heard good things from the friend we gave it too. Would reccommend it.

My husband wanted to replace a 30+ year old softball that his family had used in Chicago. He didn't think they still made them, but they do. This is nice for working with children who are just learning the game.
