A standard durable rubber base cover sits atop a base anchor thats held in place magnetically. When the anchor is overcome by the excessive force of a short slide, it releases. According to rule 1.06 of the Little League rulebook, beginning with the 2008 season, it will become mandatory that all leagues utilize bases that disengage their anchor.in
