Setting: Contemporary U.S.
Sensuality Rating: 8

Bestselling author Nora Roberts continues her acclaimed MacGregor series with two romantic novellas in The MacGregors: Alan and Grant. In All the Possibilities, Washington, D.C., socialite Shelby Campbell meets Senator Alan MacGregor and the attraction is immediate and powerful. Unfortunately, Shelby is determined to avoid romantic involvement with any public figure, a resolve that stems from her witnessing her politician father's assassination. A man in the spotlight, especially a man in politics, is too vulnerable, and she can't risk losing someone she loves again. Her determination is no match for Alan's, though, as the handsome MacGregor lays siege to the Campbell heart with weapons too compelling to resist.

In One Man's Art, Shelby's brother, Grant Campbell, has found his own way of coping with his loss. A famous cartoonist and political satirist, Grant lives as a virtual hermit in an isolated Maine lighthouse, jealously guarding his privacy. His battlements are breached, however, when beautiful Genvieve Grandeau arrives sodden and stranded on his doorstep. Genvieve, herself a renowned artist, has come to Maine seeking solitude and inspiration. When Grant's grudging willingness to assist a damsel in distress turns to outright surliness as he camouflages his attraction to her, she sets upon a mission to make him regret his rudeness. Soon she has more on her hands than she expected, as she and Grant both recognize a passion that neither can deny.

Though thinner in plot than the typical Roberts book--due to the shorter, double-novella format--The MacGregors: Alan and Grant nonetheless contains the same compelling characters, rich description, and sensuous storytelling known and loved by Roberts fans. This newest MacGregor novel should please both her devoted readers and new readers alike. --Lisa Wanttaja --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another MacGregor winner, June 18, 2003
I loved this book and the whole series about the wonderful MacGregor family. This one contains two stories-

**Alan's story- alan is the first born son and a US Senator with aspirations for the presidency. He falls for Shelby- an eccentric Washington potter who's father was also a senator and assassinated when she was just a girl. For this reason, Shelby does not want to get back involved into politics. Alan spends most of the book plotting to win over her and I enjoyed his attempts to do so. This was a charming novel.

**Grant's story--Grant is a reclusive artist who lives in an old lighthouse. Gennie is on the run from a tragedy in her past and is stranded when her car stops. She winds up on Grant's door-like a breath of sunshine. He wants to remain a recluse but Gennie has gotten into his heart. It is quite funny and touching, esp when they go visit the Macgregor family.

I very much enjoyed these stories as i have all the macgregor novels- Nora Roberts certainly has crafted a winning dynasty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family ties, November 4, 2002

(REAL NAME)
As Daniel MacGregor's eldest son, Alan is expected to follow a political career and to find an appropriate wife. He has succeeded in the former but not in the latter. When he meets Shelby Campbell, he is immediately enchanted with her, but he does not realize that Shelby has vowed not to ever become involved with a politician. She has seen her own politician father die from an assassin's bullet and she is determined not to give her heart to someone who may meet the same fate. The rest of this story deals with the back and forth struggle between these two to see if they will spend the rest of their lives together. The second story deals with Shelby's brother Grant, who has reacted to his father's death by isolating himself in a lighthouse where he draws a syndicated cartoon and hides from other people. His world is invaded by Genvieve Grandeau, an artist from New Orleans who comes to paint pictures of Grant's world. They meet when a storm stalls Gennie's car and forces her to seek shelter at the lighthouse. Their two different worlds and personalities clash, but they discover that a strong mutual attraction exists between them. This is recommended reading for Nora Roberts fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with the MacGregor Series!, April 7, 2005
By
CJMB27 (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
I think I've read most of Nora Roberts books, unfortunately, I read the MacGregor series first, which makes everything else seem not quite as good. I loved every book in this series. All of them were quick reads, with a cute sense of humor and a warm hearted feeling throughout, and without being CHEEZY. I used to only read historic romance novels, with the exception of the occasional break to the present with a little Sandra Brown, but I have to say that Nora did an excellent job with this family and somehow managed to keep the story from feeling redundant which had to be hard with the basic plot in all books being the MacGregor secretly matchmaking his family up with the perfect person. It's all very very far from the reality we know these days. But that's why we read fiction, right? lol PS If you like the MacGregor Books and have been wanting to try historical romance, you might want to check out the "Velvet" series by Jude Deaveraux. They are INCREDIBLE!
