Pop it in your Miata and enjoy!,
This review is from: MacGruber: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
There are some excellent songs on this soundtrack both from back in the day as well as a few songs made especially for the movie. When rocking to 80's tracks like ELP's "Touch and Go" and Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight" in your car, you will feel as cool as MacGruber believes he is. Newer songs like The Black Keys' "Heavy Soul" and The Hives' "Tick, Tick, Boom" are harder tracks that work well while you are working your bod at the gym. The softer songs like Toto's "Rosanna" and Quarterflash's "Harden My Heart" are perfect for an afternoon drive in the countryside with the top down. No matter what the scenario, there is a song to fit the ocassion on this. Movie sound bites are sprinkled throughout the soundtrack to remind you that you are listening to the "MacGruber" soundtrack and not simply an awesome radio station. To further drive that message home, there are some great original songs on the album that you can only get on this release. "MacGruber's Theme" is a short, epic, and explicit version of the title character's theme song (as if the title of the track didn't already reveal that) and there are three exclusive songs sung by Kristen Wiig's character, complete with campy lyrics. The real gem on the soundtrack is the final track, "MacGruber's Suite." It is an instrumental that allows the listener to relive the action, suspense, and romance sequences from the movie... celery scene included. Then at the end of that track (as an Easter Egg) they play alternate takes on the album's opening "MacGruber's Theme." These alternate takes are some of the funniest things I've EVER listened to on an album! I still crack up when I hear it. My SINGLE complaint is that the stellar song "Rock My Body" which played during the end credits of the film is not featured on the soundtrack release. Instead of having the song sung by Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) and MacGruber (Will Forte), it is done by Vicki St. Elmo and an English guy named Lightspeed Champion. This might seem like a petty thing to gripe about (Lightspeed did a good job) but the Will Forte/MacGruber delivery was pitch-perfect hilarious! I've looked all over the internet trying to find the version used in the movie with MacGruber's vocals... but I think it is a lost cause. I can always replay my DVD I guess. All and all there are some PHENOMINAL songs on this soundtrack and I'd recomend it to every fan of the movie! I know there are a few of us out there!

Some excellent classic songs on this ST,

Standout tracks - Rosanna, Take These Broken Wings and the very underplayed but excellent ELP song Touch and Go.Baker Street is another great song. Some less interesting hits, but not bad if you are in a mood - Take Me Home Tonight, Harden My Heart, and the soft rock hit Steal Awa The song Heavy Soul I am not real familiar with. Sort of a fuzz guitar blues number - not too bad. If you loved the movie, there's some soundbites to fill out the track. If you didn't, put the good songs on your player are delete the rest - it's still a good deal for some hits that don't get played every day.

An excellent soundtrack to a hilarious movie. The soundtrack includes really good songs from the 80's & 70's and some recent songs. A really good soundtrack, highly recommended!
