Final season reveals how MacGyver can get through the cracks.,
By
This review is from: MacGyver - The Complete Final Season (DVD)
The Final season of MacGyver was shortened to 14 episodes as well as the 2 movies that followed in 1994. But since the season was so short at least they had some great episodes in this season.
Episode list. 1.) Honest Abe 9/16/1991 Mac's trip to the airport to pick a friend's father arriving for his grandson's bar mitzvah turns into a wild international caper involving Caribbean terrorists and a stolen helicopter. 2.) The 'Hood 9/23/1991 MacGyver moves into a new part of town after his houseboat was destroyed in a fire. Mac helps rescue one of his new neighbors after she overhears two hit-men planning a job. 3.) Obsessed 9/30/1991 The ghost of his archenemy Murdoc leaves MacGyver sleepless and on edge just as he is about to supervise the security of the criminal trial of a deposed dictator, a task that could determine Pete's continued employment at The Phoenix Foundation. 4.) The Promethus Syndrome 10/7/1991 MacGyver becomes personally involved in the effort to find a psychopathic arsonist who killed one of his friends. 5.) The Coltons 10/14/1991 Mac's old friends, the bounty-hunting Colton brothers try to find a young woman who's the only witness to a Chinatown murder, aided by their wise and patient mother, their impatient younger brother and their dog, Frog. 6.) The Walking Dead 10/21/1991 Mac helps his neighbor, Mama Lorraine, rescue a young student activist who has been kidnapped and turned into a zombie by Haitian terrorists hiding behind a powerful voodoo priest. 7.) Good Knight MacGyver (Part 1 of 2) 11/4/1991 A genealogy investigation and a knock on the head takes Mac back to King Arthur's court, where he must use his knowledge to prove Merlin innocent of harming the King, find the fair Cecilia and foil Morgana's attempt to take over the throne. 8.) Good Knight MacGyver (Part 2 of 2) 11/11/1991 This episode continues the previous when a genealogy investigation and a knock on the head takes Mac back to King Arthur's court, where he must use his knowledge to prove Merlin innocent of harming the King, find the fair Cecilia and foil Morgana's attempt to take over the throne. 9.) Deadly Silents 11/18/1991 Mac tries to help an old silent film star retrieve the only existing prints of his work from a pair of special-effects obsessed fans, who try to catch MacGyver in a deadly trap. 10.) Split Decision 12/2/1991 Mac's friend Earl Dent looks to him for help when he fights to retain custody of his teenage daughter while preparing for a boxing comeback that bookmakers want him to throw. 11.) Gunz 'n Boyz 12/16/1991 Mac and the Challenger Club try to help a boy prepared to take the rap for another boy murdered by weapons dealers exploiting the fear and suspicion in the neighborhood. 12.) Off The Wall 12/30/1991 Mac battles a callous slumlord when a young graffiti artist asks for help when his grandmother faces eviction from the apartment where she's spent her life. 13.) The Stringer 4/25/1992 While taking on the cause of a Chinese dissident on the run, MacGyver is helped by a young photo journalist named Sam. But Macgyver is in for the shock of his life when Sam tells him what his name stands for. It's "Sean Angus Macgyver"..... 14.) The Mountain of Youth 5/21/1992 Mac and Jack search for a mythical fountain of youth in a land of paradise and find a tribe of people who live over 150 years old. They discover the tribe could be at risk, since the government has a secret heavy water facility used for nuclear weapon technology. That completes the MacGyver series although the 2 movies which aired in 1994 are unknown if they will be included but I'd like to see it as well. Enjoy!

Disappointed...,

It appears that loyal fans will not get the two Mac movies with this final season, which is of course, a huge disappointment. Given there are only 4 discs and 14 episodes that is about 3-4 episodes per disc, not leaving enough room for the 2 movies. Fer shame paramount, fer shame.

This looks cool can't wait for the set to be released.
Watching this show again on DVD from season one up to season six was awsome. I have to ask if this is really the end or will us fans see the release of the two Macguyver tv movies: Lost Treasure of Atlantis and Trail to Doomsday on DVD soon. I for one Hope so this will really complete the collection. Come to think of it they should have added it as two Bonus disk in the final season.

Angus MacGyver RIP
How else can you say good bye to an friend. I know Richard Dean Anderson has done the MacGyver Mastercard ads..but it isn't the same In this final season of my hero, we close the book on Murdoc, The Phoenix Foundation, Pete, Jack Dalton and the bounty hunting family the Coltons. I wish they made more than 14 final episodes, but you take what you are given The sadest part of this set is the two Mac Gyver TV movies are not part of this collection. Nor does Anderson do any episode audio commentary..so it is sad day for DUCT TAPE, Paper Clips and MacGyver fans I will get this final DVD set, however It will be bittersweet for me Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD

After the mixture of good and bad episodes in season 6, I only bought the final season to complete the set of all 7 boxsets.
The final season is pretty good, with the exception of a few episodes, however you can easily tell that the writers were running out of ideas, and hence the short 14 episode season (usually 22 episodes). All in all, worth buying if you're a die hard fan, or want a complete collection. 6/10 overall.

I like the Macgyver show but I'm not a huge fan and bought the series mostly because contemporary TV programming is almost too toxic to watch anymore and of course I watch it for the nostalgia. The 1980s episodes were good but like any show the quality started to taper off as the show came into the new decade. I've only gotten through the first 5 episodes of season 7 and they're "ok" but the quality of the shows is by far the worst of any season. I couldn't believe how bad the writing was in the first episode about the stolen helicopter and it continues into the episode about the Coltons, which I skipped over after realizing Macgyver was only making a cameo appearance in and on into the voodoo episode. I didn't like the changes in the location of the sets away from Vancouver to Los Angeles which gave the show a completely different feel about it. I'm also disappointed at Macgyver moving out of his nice houseboat on the harbor to some hippie's loft in a really bad neighborhood surrounded by iffy neighbors. Social engineering at its worst. I can understand why there were only 14 episodes, the ratings must have dropped like a rock. If you want an honest opinion, season 7 isn't worth having unless your a die hard Macgyver fan and want to complete the collection. I would recommend seasons 1-4 at best.

It's exactly what I was wanting. Lots of excellent episodes in this season, which was not real long. However, one of the best episodes out of the entire series is in this season- Good Knight MacGyver.

The MacGyver series has to be one of the best series on television and I regret that this calibre of script writing is no longer presented to the television audience. The series CD's are truly terrific and some even have a moral to the story.

Poignant and Nostalgic,

Although I purchased seasons 2 - 7 of the MacGyver Series from Amazon as separate purchases for economic reasons (and to be sure I was really going to view them all), I'm electing to let this review cover the entire lot. I started buying these DVD's from Amazon because, having purchased Season 1 in a store, I was unable to find any of the others. I am glad and grateful that indeed Amazon was able to direct me to them at a price I could afford.
My personal opinion is that MacGyver is one of the best shows that ever appeared on TV. My mother and I both enjoyed them tremendously, so much so that we named our Dalmatian dog after the character. The name proved fortuitous, because like the TV hero, the dog survived a fall which really should have killed him! In any event, viewing these videos again has been a poignant and nostalgic experience, but a very delightful one. I have been so blessed by this series of DVD's that I am sharing them with my 13-year-old grandson, and hope that he enjoys them as much as his grandmother and great-grandmother did during their original television presentation. |
