The BEST Two of the Four Brothers,
By
This review is from: The MacKade Brothers: Devin And Shane: The Heart of Devin MacKade\The Fall Of Shane MacKade (Paperback)
Devin and Shane's stories are the best of the MacKade quartet. I especially liked Devin's story. I think the love and dedication he expressed for Cassie was beyond romantic. His relationship with the children was so sweet, it was another story in itself. I've read their story several times. I just can't get enough of a strong man putting everything on the line to win his love.

I picked this one up for some beach reading and I loved it. Devin's story was very predictable after reading about Rafe and Jared, but I enjoyed it just the same. I loved Shane's story. I hope Nora Roberts writes about Bryan and Conner in the years to come.I would also recommend Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts and her Three Sisters Island trilogy and the Quinn Brothers books.

This was a reread for me and I really liked it.
This is the last two stories of the four MacKade brothers. Local bad boys as teens, these siblings turned out to be great men. In the Heart of Devin MacKade, Devin is now the local sherriff. For years he has been in love with Cassie. A mother of two that he was forced to watch be abused by her husband. Her husband is now in jail and Cassie has been divorced from him for some time now. He is now trying to get her to look beyond their long standing friendship. A lovely tale of true love with some suspenseful twist and turns. In the Fall of Shane MacKade you have the baby brother. He is the local heart throb who see's it as his duty to love all the ladies. He is also the son who took over the family farm, the sight of some ghost hauntings. Rebecca is a friend of Regan (The return of Rafe)who comes to town to look into all the paranormal activity. She was a child prodigy and has a ton of degrees. Completely the opposite of a woman Shane should want. It's fun to watch the fall of Shane. Like in the previous two stories, you have some ghost stories mixed in with these two. An entertaining read.

I purchased this book, in anticipation of completing the series from her last republication of the MacKade brothers: Rafe and Jared. It is the typical Roberts' book with the predictable characters and plot. The ghosts/past reliving moments was overdone. The story of Devin was expected. However both stories were dull, and repetitive in conjunction with Rafe and Jared. I would recommend a different series, Born in Ice, Fire, and Shame, for newcomers. She is a phenomenal author...just have to be careful with the republications.

I've loved reading some of Nora Roberts books, but all these republished earlier books are just not as good. Her books are always somewhat predictable, which is fine. Her characters in this one are just so unreal. I constantly had to roll my eyes and asked myself more than once why I was even reading this book. Very disappointing!

I'm not into reading Silhouette romances, but Nora"s romances are the exceptions. I've previously read Rafe's and Jared MacKade's stories and really enjoyed them. I have to say that I enjoyed the ladies Regan and Savannah very much. Devin's story was sort of expected, I knew that Cassie would be his from very early on, I was just waiting for how Nora would play out Joe Dolin her former husband, for some reason his story was not my favorite. Shane's story saved the book, I loved how she played the Civil War theme with Rebecca a para-psychologist. I enjoyed Shane and Rebecca. Sumerizing all I would have to say that Jared's and Shane's stories were my favorites.

Overall rating...4 Stars
This is the second book of the MacKade brothers stories. I strongly recommend you read Rafe and Jared's story first because it's a continuing story. "Bad boys, bad boys, what'cha gonna do, what'cha gonna do when they come for you.....LoL, I couldn't resist! Devin & Cassie's story...5 Stars Devin has loved Cassie from afar most of his life, but when she got married right after high school he lost his chance with her. Cassie was abused throughout her marriage and after 10 years she finally goes to Sherriff Devin MacKade for help. He gives her time to heal... after all he's waited this long to have her, what's another year right? Devin can feel Cassie's heart mending, and so can you. This bad boy MacKade moves in at a speed that she didn't see coming. It was perfect! Cassie realizes it has always been Devin; Devin who would come to her rescue, Devin who would protect her children and it was Devin who had always been her biggest regret. You will not (could not) be disappointed in this tale of how love can mend even the most shattered of hearts. Shane & Rebecca's story...3.5 Stars I was expecting oh so much more for the last of the four brothers. Maybe Nora was ready to move on to the next book or maybe she just got stuck, but I think Shane got the shaft in this one. I did like Rebecca for all her brilliance and underlying beauty, and of course I hearted Shane with his sea green eyes, unruly curly black hair and sweaty over worn tanks (how could you not?). I just didn't feel the connection that I wanted to (needed to) between them. This series is one of my absolute favorites of Nora's, and I'm so sad that I don't have another to continue on to. It's been nice seeing all the brothers grow up and make beautiful families of their own (I'm so proud, Ha!).

The Cop & the Bachelor McKades,
By Terry A. Benedict-Devine "Terry" (Barnegat, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The MacKade Brothers: Devin And Shane: The Heart of Devin MacKade\The Fall Of Shane MacKade (Paperback)
The two remaining bachelor stories of the McKade family begin with the story of Sheriff Devin McKade. Devin has been sworn to protect and aid the citizens of Antietam, MD, however, when it comes to Cassie Connor Dolin, he has a definite soft spot in his heart. He has been in love with her for as long as he can remember; however, Cassie chose a rough path with former husband, Joe Dolin. Joe abused and beat her and terrorized their two children. With Joe behind bars for an indefinite period of time and Cassie divorced, Devin decides he has waited long enough for Cassie's heart. The only problem is that Cassie feels she has lost her chance at love and she has two children who desperately require her love and attention and are terrified of another man becoming part of their family.
The story of Shane McKade takes us to the baby of the family, however, he is just as gorgeous as his three older brothers, and has sworn himself to the life of a bachelor. There will never be just one woman for Shane until Dr. Rebecca Knight, scholar and scientist is drawn to the town by her instincts under the premise of visiting her old school friend, Regan. This is when trouble starts, not only with Shane's heart but also with the ghosts that live in his house; the house that belonged to his ancestors during the Civil War. It is certainly an interesting tale of folklore and romance and a very sweet climax to the story of the McKade Brothers.

THE book review for The MacKade brothers,
This review is from: The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane: The Heart Of Devin MacKade\The Fall Of Shane MacKade (Mass Market Paperback)
The romance novel, "The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane" by Nora Roberts is captivating and thoroughly detailed. As a woman, I enjoyed reading about the drama between a boy and a girl. Clearly, the audience is focused on girls and the author takes that into account fairly well by creating drama every chance she gets.
On that note, Roberts' story is very cliche. Rebellious boy who does not want to be held down by one girl. Then comes that one girl and sweeps him off his feet and he changes. However, this typical story is a favorite for many people. The inclusion of paranormal activity seems random and off subject. I believe Roberts' tried to make her story different from the many other plots like this by adding ghosts. However, she fails at this attempt. These occurances seem all of a sudden and intruding. On the other hand, the author's rhetoric is non-amateurish, unlike J.K. Rowling who makes it seem like she is struggling to create metaphors and appeal to the senses whereas it comes naturally to Roberts. She has very intriguing rhetoric in that you feel like you are the character being abused or swept away by love. The protagonists were all perceived as perfect and the antagonists are horrid. Roberts guided us to whom we should like and dislike. It weakens the book by saying only good things about the protagonists and vice versa because we don't get a feel for who the characters are. It is frustrating because the author, by doing so, makes the book even more cliche. The story-line and plot is great in that the book did not only focus on Devin and Cassie being together and their problems, but the reader got several glimpses into the mind of the evil Joe. However, the second book, "The Fall of Shane MacKade" was very basic and there was not anything particularly special about it. While reading it, I was captivated (because of the author's good rhetoric), but looking back and trying to summarize the book, it isn't very impressive. Boy meets girl and they fall in love. The playfulness of the MacKade brothers is humorous in the novel. I found myself smiling when they tease or fight. Also, the family aspect of the novel is very strong, and it makes the book more serious. The mood is suspenseful and romantic for the most part. The drama, in a way, keeps you on your toes as you go from surprise to surprise. The romance is what women find entertaining and sweet. However, I think it is books like these that leave women with high expectations for men and upset when they cannot find a perfect significant other found in romance novels. As a whole, the book has some good parts, but the book is just too cliche to write a review for. It doesn't have many parts to comment on regarding the story-line and plot. However, the rhetoric and thorough details make "The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane" a fairly pleasant and entertaining read. |
