5.0 out of 5 stars Return of the MacKades
This is a re-issue of one of NR's best series, the MacKade Brothers. Silhouette Intimate Moments #631, The Return of Rafe MacKade, and Silhouette Special Editions, #1000, The Pride of Jared MacKade. 2.0 out of 5 stars The Macade Brothers
The book has typos which is weird. A whole section is repeated. Also the plot is very typical of Nora Roberts and leaves no suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a knock-out!, April 7, 2004
By A Customer
I can't say enough good things about this book--it was just fantastic! Of the three things I've read lately (LIFE OF PI, BARK OF THE DOGWOOD by McCrae, and THE MACKADE BROTHERS) this one is the best! What's so amazing is that you usually get a great story OR a well-written book from an author, but in this case you get both--highly unusual for anyone in my opinion. I'm not usually one for this genre of fiction, but Roberts has outdone herself in this case. Don't be fooled into thinking this is some sappy romance--there's enough there for anyone, regardless of his or her taste in literature. I was down for the count on this one--a true knock-out!

5.0 out of 5 stars By Far one of the best!, May 27, 2004
The MacKade Brothers are one of the best NR series ever. About four brothers who got into a little (Well a lot) of trouble when they were little and now have grown up.
It kicks off with the baddest of the four Rafe who returns to Antietem,MD and meets up with Regan who moved to town four years ago.
Then picks up with Jared the lawyer who has to inform new recluse Savannah Morningside of her father's death and is attracted to her.
For those of you who have been disillusioned by Birthright and Three Keys-The MacKade brothers will reminded you why you started reading NR in the beginning. Each of the brothers are very likable and so are the women they are paired with.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, May 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you enjoy Nora Roberts, you'll like this book. There are four Mackade brothers, this book has the stories of Rafe and Jared. Both are fun, easy reads.

The Mackade brothers have a reputation in town of being troublemakers. Rafe leaves town and returns 10 years later after making money rehabbing and selling old buildings. He buys the Barlow place, the "haunted" house of the town and starts to rehab it into a bed and breakfast. He meets Regan, who owns an antique store in town and hires her to help decorate. You can pretty much guess the way the story goes from there, but the story is enjoyable.

Jared has become a lawyer that has recently divorced. He promises himself that he will never marry again. But then he meets Savannah and her son Bryan. These two fight a lot. One memorable part is when Savannah drives up to the Mackade farm and, item by item, dumps and destroys anything that Jared had at her house. Also, the part when Jared sits in the forest and talks to Bryan about wanting to marry his mom and Bryan throws his arms around him telling him he would like him to be his dad is very touching. Savannah left home pregnant at 16 and has found it very hard to trust anyone since. Nora Roberts does a good job developing the trust between Savannah and Jared.

The next book, which covers Devin and Shane, has started out just as good. Nora Roberts is at her best when she has multiple books covering one family. You enjoy the characters more because the stories between family members carry over to each book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good quick read, August 12, 2004
By
Annette B. "anekab" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I like to think I've read everything written by Nora Roberts, and then another set of republications comes out and I find myself in error. Usually, I thoroughly enjoy her characters, in particular the strong women who have minds of their own. And what kind of reader of romance novels would I be if I didn't love those brooding handsome men who realize the error of their ways and let themselves love with their whole heart. Nora Roberts rarely disappoints me in those two things. One thing I enjoy about Nora's books is that they often connect characters together from book to book. The MacKade Brothers series has started off with two strong-willed women and two equally strong-willed men. The haunting aspect is a nice twist, but if you're reading all four stories (Rafe, Jared, Devin and Shane) back to back it becomes a little tedious. All in all, a good read for a quick romance fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Rafe and Jared's stories, March 8, 2005
I have never been a big fan of contemporary romances, but Nora Roberts puts so much imagery and depth into her stories that it is hard not to like them. Unaccountably the best romance writer we have. Rafe and Jared's stories was full of passion and love that these two stories are the best I've read so far. I haven't been reading Nora for long, but I know that after these two, I will read as many as I can come across. Bravo Nora, for writing intense, believable romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, October 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was a reread for me and I liked it! This is the first two stories of the fabulous MacKade brothers. Four brothers who were known for being a bit rowdy and unruly as teens.
In the Return of Rafe MacKade you have the baddest of the 4 boys coming home after leaving several years ago. He has made his money in the construction industry. He comes back to by a local haunted house that has been abandoned for years.
Regan is a local antique store owner. There is lust a first sight and Rafe hires her to help him redocorate the house and return it to it's original splendour so he can make a Bed and Breakfast.
In The Pride of Jared MacKade you have Jared an attorney hired to settle an estate with the new girl in town. When he meets Savannah and her son he is immediately taken by her. But Savannah is about as prickly as they come. At times her attitude was way too much.
Through both these stories and the next two are some interesting haunts and tales about people who lived and died during the civil war.
Very interesting read.

This review is from: The MacKade Brothers: Rafe And Jared: The Return Of Rafe MacKade\The Pride Of Jared MacKade (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed these two books. I had read the final two books first (borrowed a copy) and liked them so much I bought this one and the final two installments also. I'm becoming a real Nora Roberts fan!
