About the Author

Geoffrey Abbott is an authority on all things macabre and gruesome. He became a Yeoman Warder (beefeater) in 1947 and took up residence in the Tower of London. In the name of research he has been locked in jail cells, stood on execution chamber trap-doors and has even had the hangman's noose placed around his own neck!

As the previous reviewer said, there are some factual errors throughout. These get annoying at times depending on your knowledge of a subject.

Overall though, it is an enjoyable, fascinating light read that will whittle away a lazy afternoon with glee.

A very few entries are slightly off-track in terms of factuality (most likely simple editorial mix-ups due to the large number of items in this small but dense volume), but in general, a good place to go for bizarre anecdotes about humanity's darker (weirder) side. Some items are horrific, some amusing, some appalling, some just plain strange and all are entertaining on one level or other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who cares about the facts, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Macabre Miscellany: A Thousand Grisly and Unusual Facts From Around the World (Mass Market Paperback)
I like short stories with a feeling of the macabre with it. If you want facts then read facts remember that facts change with each new coming generation. Here at brfe LLC Inc we believe that if the story is great then it is worth revising. I give these short stories a rating of five as encouagement to research the facts and change Wierd to interesting, divising a more chilling approsch to these tales.
