Pleasantly surprised with the Tunepro,

Don't know why there were no previous reviews for this product -- because so few people had bought it or because everybody who bought it was happy with it?? I'm quite pleased with the Tunepro, especially in comparison with similar products, most of which cost much more. Sound quality is surprisingly good when the WOW feature is turned, not boomy at all, tuner is OK, clock and alarm work OK, product design (appearance and function) are very good. Only criticism is that there is no battery backup for the clock.

I was looking for something to dock my Nano (1st gen) to which would double as an alarm clock. This works great. The overall look is very minimal, sleek and somewhat reflective. The clock does not light up half my room (like my old one) and is very easy to read at night. The main issue I have with it is that there is no way to turn off the alarm in the morning without disabling the alarm. Or if there is, I haven't found it. This means that you have to remember to set the alarm again- unlike other clocks which just have an 'off' button. The off button on this one just acts as a snooze. I suppose if it came with instructions, that might help. But that drawback just drops it a notch in the ratings. Other than that, FM sounds good, ipod sounds good. I haven't had a chance to test AM, but it does have an antenna for it.
Oh, and the power cord could be longer. I would think that most people put this on their nightstand and drop the cord down to plug in. If your plug happens to be a couple of feet away, you'll need an extension cord. Worth the cost though. I'd get it again if I had to.

Don't buy if you want to use an ipod as the alarm,
This review is from: Macally Flat-Panel Stereo System with AM/FM, Alarm Clock, and iPod Dock (Black) (Electronics)
This product has a hugh design flaw. When you use the ipod as the source of music for the alarm clock, you can't control the volume. When the time comes for the alarm to go, the ipod turns on and the music plays with the volume rapidly rising to the full volume output. You can't control the maximum volume; thus, you will be blasted out of your bed and your neighbors will wonder why you are doing this. I called customer support at Macally and they acknowledge that this is a design flaw and there is nothing that can be done about it by the user. Save yourself the trouble--if you don't buy this you won't have to return it.

Awesome Sound! Has its flaws,

Got this for my wife as an alarm clock. Read all the reviews so I knew in my head this would function mostly as an alarm clock and not compete against other "sound/stereo systems" for the ipod. I've got the 3rd gen.
The sound quality is awesome with WOW on, I wouldn't go adjusting the Treble or Bass as its not that great, but WOW on is a must on this baby. Although occasionally with WOW on some MP3's sound rough and require a skip or WOW to be turned off. Poor quality MP3 is usually the issue not the WOW from what I gather. The aesthetics are awesome! Flat panel speakers (which is suprisingly good on audio) have a great mirror finish, just dont touch with your oily hands! The vibrations are neat but no biggie. it fits nicely on the night stand without taking up much room compared to some other docks i've seen. It looks beautiful. The alarm clock LED's are very nice and bigg enough for my sleepy eyes. Alarm volume, can be crazy, but an alarm is to wake you up I guess. Not a big deal for my wife and I it gets us out of be. I found leveling the volume is just fine. AM I never use... no comment FM in my area of Cali, I can't get reception on any household radio... but the stations I can pickup are fine. You definitely have to extend the antenna. Other may have better comments on this one. Buzzer, never used it... just use the ipod for waking up. oh which reminds me you have to predefine the playlist to wake up to and it will play that song in the morning. It does have two preset times which it had 4, but not many alarm clocks go beyond 2. Snooze button is big enough and in a good enough spot for me. I can't seem to get mine to charge my ipod all the time, but the auto shutoff is good to conserve the battery. I may have a glitch or bad one, haven't heard any bad reviews on this so maybe I got a lemon. All in all LOVE the sound, LOVE the look, and I do enjoy the alarm clock. I can't really complain much, but for others it may be annoying.

We were looking for something different which sounded good and worked with the new iPod touch. We found it in the Macally Flat Panel Stereo Speakers. It's a dual alarm clock with radio and some neat high tech speakers that look like mirrors. We've been more than satisfied and happily recommend it. At this point, finding devices that work well with the iPod touch is still a bit of a challenge but this product fits the bill nicely.

Has spend quite a while trying to choose the right one. And even after I have ordered this one - I was not really sure that I have done the right thing. Not until I have unpacked it, installed and tried it. I was very pleasently surprised by the qaulity of its sound and radio reception, and absolutely excited by its looks. And very, very pleased. The overall quality is more than satisfactory. Good buy.
Btw - I am using it with both Nano3G and iTouch and works with both flawlesly.

Unusable as an alarm clock,

I wish I would have read the previous review about the alarm clock issue before buying this...
It's not limited to using an iPod. Waking to the radio has the same problem. Within 5 seconds, this thing will be playing full blast. You have 2 options, snooze or turn the alarm off. Pressing the volume button is the same as snooze. There is no way you can wake to music because of this volume issue.

Clever and Attractive Design,

This review is from: Macally Flat-Panel Stereo System with AM/FM, Alarm Clock, and iPod Dock (Black) (Electronics)
The Macally Flat Panel iPod Docking Stereo Alarm Clock is an attractive and well-executed design that maximizes features in a minimum space. It represents a very good value for an iPod docking station. Its modern "clean" appearance is at the expense of some controls being located inconveniently in the back. Set your expectations not for an audiophile stereo, but for a sound that is surprisingly good for a unit of this size.
Comes with adapters for various iPod models, but not with one that precisely fits the newest, curved Nano; my daughter chose to install the white adapter that came with her Nano rather that the black adapter suppiied by Macally for the older Nano. She loves it.

Good sound and features for the money,

The Macally TunePro is a classy looking, high performing piece of equipment. The flat panel, smoked glass background really sets this piece apart in your bedroom. It comes complete with adapters for all the current and past versions of the iPod plus a connector for any other mp3 player (though you can't wake to those).
Functionally, everything is great - particularly the double alarm settings, and the location of the snooze button being far away from the 'turn the darn thing off' button makes it much less likely you'll make a horrible meeting-missing mistake in the morning. The sound quality is quite good, particularly considering the size and the cost. Short of paying double or triple what this costs I don't know that you could get better sound for the size. There are many audio options, including SRS and WOW for expanded surround sound and bass performance. The two negatives I would give this are that it's large for an alarm clock, and there is no powersave battery location. It also is a little tricky to set, and you have to remember to turn the alarm back on once it's been turned off in the morning. These are pretty minor issues however - overall this is a top-notch product! Overall Rating - 4 out of 5 Chips.
