One of the best accessories I bought to go with my new iBook,

I had seen this item elsewhere described as the MacAlly Icepad. Amazon's price was good. And the item was just what I wanted it to be. Lightweight, sturdy enough, able to fold fairly flat and slip inside my computer bag. Sets the laptop at an angle allowing air to circulate beneath the bottom. It still gets a little warm, but nowhere near as much as when I use the laptop without it. The rubbery surface on both sides keeps the computer in place on the Icepad and also steadies them both on your lap or in bed. Something else I really like is the elevation the angle gives the keyboard. Not only does it keep the iBook from overheating, it gives a more comfortable typing position, whether on a desk or on my lap. My iBook has a 14" screen. The Icepad is perfectly adequate for that.

I am very happy with this device. My computer does slide a bit when I am lazily lying in bed, using my 12" PowerBook, which isn't really heavy, but I like the cooling feature. My computer still gets warm, but it's better than before.

I'd been using a similar product, the Targus Lapdesk, for years, until it finally broke. They redesigned it and the new model was/is junk so I went looking for a replacement. Found this and I've been very happy since. It's not as thick or sturdy as the Targus, which concerns me somewhat in terms of durability, but functionally it does exactly what it's supposed to. Note: the 'folded' position is for table, not lap use, it's too narrow for that. The 'unfolded' position is good for lap use and provides just enough space to work while remaining portable. Highly recommended.

I considered more expensive laptop stands, but am very pleased that I chose this one. It sturdily supports even my large 17-inch Powerbook, and the rubbery pads really grip it. It's comfortable on my lap, and it does a great job of elevating the Powerbook on a desk for a better typing angle. I also like how it folds up and fits into my carrying case.

I'm typing this review using an ICEPad I bought 4 1/2 years ago, under a 12" iBook. I've used the ICEPad constantly during that time, mostly as a heat shield while using the computer in my lap, but also as a desk stand while travelling with the computer.
The one Achilles heel of the stand is that with long-term use the glue (some sort of rubber cement) binding the rubber pads to the plastic frame gets loosened by heat and/or friction, and pads start coming loose. This is more of a nuisance than a fatal flaw, and considering the amount of use I've given the device and how long it took for this to start happening, it's a minor issue. On the whole this is an ideal stand for a small (12-14") notebook computer.

Great for holding a hot laptop,

Of all the stands I looked at to put under my Macbook, this was the simplest, most portable, and easy to use. It collapses into a thin form to put in the case with my laptop computer and holds it firmly with its non-slip surface. It's generous air openings help to disperse the heat from the machine and keep it off your lap or your desk.

This is a great laptop holder. It keeps the lap cool and has enough room for a external mouse (if you have a 12" laptop). You can also fold it in half and adjust it for better viewing angle on a desk or if use it folded when sitting in a narrow airplane seat. It works well with larger laptops too. The rubber grips on the surface hold the laptop well and help to keep it from slipping off. I would have given this a 5, but the rubber feet keep coming off. So far I have not lost them, but will try to glue them in more securely.

This is a great product. Can be used on a table to elevate the back of the keyboard, or on your lap (either flat or folded in half) to keep your legs cooler.

This stand is too flimsy for my large laptop. It might work for a smaller one. A much better solution is the Allsop Metal Art Notgebook Stand.

Did not work; flimsy,

I thought this would be exactly what I wanted to raise my laptop to eye level and slant the key board for comfortable use. Intended to use at desk. While it accomplished those tasks, my laptop didn't sit flat and bounced when typing. Didn't stay put, worked its way down the thing. It is possible my Dell was too heavy. Thingie to hold slant very flimsy. Returning and continuing search.
