Great looking and feeling controller but it doesn't work.
on January 20, 2011
Here's the deal. I bought this because it was one of the few controllers that stated it was made for a Mac computer. To be specific an iMac I7 27 inch. I know that most controllers that are USB should work with a Mac but I wanted to be extra careful and get the one that said right on the item listing that it is compatible with Mac.
So I purchase the controller and it arrives at my house in pristine condition. I love it because it feels just like my PS3 controller. I plug it in and download the drivers, reboot and I am able to go through the system preferences and test all the buttons. Everything looks good.
I load up Borderlands, Game of the Year Edition, and find that the controller is not being recognized. I go through every setup menu and screen there is but there is no option to configure a gamepad. It appears that it is just supposed to work, which it doesn't. After scowering all apple help files/pages, Borderlands support pages, and Macally support pages, there is nothing that suggests any way to get this to work. Multiple reboots had no effect as well.
As a last ditch effort I bring my PS3 controller into my computer room and connect it to my mac via USB. Low and behold it works! I unplug the usb cable and wallah! I am now using my PS3 controller wirelessly, through Bluetooth, with Borderlands on my Mac. There's a YouTube video out there to show you how to do this but simply plug in via USB, press PS3 button to pair, and disconnect USB.
Long story short - this controller doesn't work with Borderlands for the Mac. I will be honest and say that I didn't try any other games, but it didn't look good. I'll probably just use my PS3 controller for my Mac until I run into one it won't work for. If you have a PS3 controller, save yourself some time and money and connect it up to your mac. It will work like a charm.
