4.0 out of 5 stars Fun workout hampered by misguided camera work
I bought the Macarena workout to use as a "bonus" workout on my Yoga days -- when 30 minutes of aerobics is enough. (I use Elise Foss's Viva! Latin Rhythms Workout as my regular aerobic dance video.) I found Gloria to be an appealing and friendly instructor (what a smile!). She works to build up routines slowly and provides lots of encourage. The routines are...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun workout, can get "old" fast though
Gloria Quinlan has a lot of energy and does a good job leading this routine despite a few times when she miscues and some strange usage of the English language (which I find charming rather than annoying). The routine can have a pretty steep learning curve and give you a good workout while you're learning it. But I found that I outgrew the routine quickly. It is a...

The routines are fun, and the music used after the Macarena warm-up is quite enjoyable.

That said, I agree with other reviewers that the camera person seems a little too infatuated with closeups of the dancers. Especially the petite woman in the blue workout...yeah, she's flexible, but the closeups of her--which seemed like they were more for another kind of video--did nothing to help me learn the moves. Also, the black and white cut sequences were overly artsy for an instructional tape. Also, my VCR has a little trouble with the tracking on the tape and as a result, I'm not able to turn up the volume to the level I'd like to enjoy the music and hear all of Gloria's instructions.

It is a fun one, but best for Beginners I think. However, anyone could use it as a warm up for a toning routine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, May 18, 2000

Don't buy this video. The shots centered on the faces, rather than the steps. I could barely hear what the center instructor was saying.

5.0 out of 5 stars just for fun, December 18, 2002

When I'm bored and short on time and *this close* to blowing off my workout altogether, I pop this charmer in the VCR and dance like a Latina for 30 minutes. The steps are easy and fun and the girls are cutie-pies. Even if you're an intermediate exercisers, you can get your heart rate up to a reasonable level by dancing like you mean it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner workout video, March 23, 1999

Very nice low impact video. If you like the Macarena, the music will make you want to start dancing! Too many upper body closeups of the instructors, though... ;-) obviously intended to keep the men glued to the screen, but I'd prefer more closeups of the STEPS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, not your basic same 'ole exercise video., February 12, 1999

Easy & fun video, even for a beginner. Don't be discouraged if you can't do all of the moves perfectly the first time through. The moves & routines are so different from the usual aerobics found on most videos or in local classes. Definitely a good way to add variety to your workout regime.
