I don't know why anyone would focus on pictures for a cookbook review. What matters to me is that the recipes work! Who cares about what the thing looks like! But I digest...after trying French Macaroons for the first time at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Easter Sunday Brunch, I became obsessed with this culinary work of art. I had no idea what they were, and I was too embarrassed to ask. I stumbled upon an article in a magazine about them, and purchased some from a small bakery in Louisville, KY. They weren't as good as the Waldorf, but they did the trick. So then began my quest to make them. I had purchased "Le Petit Macaroon" and attempted four of the recipes in that book, all of which failed miserably. I then purchased "Mad About Macaroons" which fared even worse. I even bought the Laudere Sugar cookbook, but was too broken hearted to try. I went to Paris and bought some Macaroons from Laudere, but they still weren't as good as the Waldorf's. I stumbled across this magical literary godsend at a Home Goods store in Charleston, West Virginia. I thought to myself "all I need is another useless macaroon cookbook to get my hopes up", but since the recipes were in cups and teaspoons, and not grams and ounces, I decided to go for it and I'm glad I did. When I peeked at my macaroons after five minutes in the oven, and they had feet, I started to dance! I have tried two recipes from this book so far, and they have been awesome! I cook at a temp of 315, I use the "airbake" cookies sheets, I process my sugar in the food processor to get the super fine sugar (I can't find castor sugar in West Virginia), I do age my egg whites 24 hours, and then bring them to room temp before I bake. I double the vanilla, and probably would all extract favors (I always double the vanilla, it's just so good).Read more ›

I bought this for my daughter who does some catering for the small restaurant that she works for. All the flavors that she has made so far have been great. Nice little cookbook!

This is a really nice book. It has many macaroon recipes that are very unique. The pictures are very colorful and it a good size book, easily readable print.

I learned to make macarons with this book, and did it perfectly on my first try. This book does a good job boosting your confidence and doesn't make the process seem too fussy. I have tried other recipes from another book, and they did not work as well as the recipes in this one.
