Book Description

Graphic Shakespeare Library August 31, 2006
Shakespeare has been called the greatest writer in the English language—but his language and settings can seem remote and forbidding. Welcome to Black Dog’s Graphic Shakespeare Library, where each play comes to life in a new way, panel after illustrated panel.

King Lear is a story of kingship, honor, and bloody revenge. Graphic Shakespeare brings all of the action to vivid life while retaining every word of the original play. King Lear is illustrated in full color by Ian Pollack and includes a synopsis of the play, and an illustrated character list. It’s a marvelous way to experience Shakespeare for the first time—or the tenth—and is sure to be attractive to students and theatre fans alike.

This review is from: Macbeth (Graphic Shakespeare) (Graphic Shakespeare Library) (Paperback)
Shakespeare has always been a bit of a puzzle to me so this book came as a pleasant surprise. The complete play is complimented by drawings which are exquisite and quite dramatic, nicely enhancing one of the greatest dramas in the world. The best way to describe it is to say that it reads like a comic although there are not many comics on the market of this quality. There is certainly no question of the play being dumbed down and I intend at some point in the future to expose my children to this work as an introduction to the greatest writer that ever lived.
